“Many more Pluses than Minuses”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

+ location
+ room size
+ terrace upstairs (small but nice with bell tower view and Internet access)
+ clean (rooms and bathrooms)
+ breakfast
+ Monti, at front desk, is fantastic
+ price for what you get
- bed could be softer (personal taste)
- pillows could be better - they might invest in down pillows or 'fake' down pillows
- would prefer if all blankets were encased in sheeting that could be washed for each new guest. I don't like quilts and bed spreads that are not encased. Overall, I think they could invest more in their beds, pillows, and bedding.

Hotel Alessandra was a wonderful hotel in Florence, with great location. Our room was very nice and the staff accommodating. I would recommend this hotel and stay again! It is the perfect location to walk anywhere in Florence - and the restaurants nearby are all very affordable and wonderful.

Glad that you loved it! You are right - lots of great places to eat that are nearby and perfectly reasonable. We hope to see you again one day.

The hotel is on an upper floor with either stairs or a tiny 2x3 elevator Hotel Alessandra is a family run hotel, and thus has more classic features in the room like a radiator. We were protected from the outside world by some large wooden shutters that hide a large window from any street noise. There is nothing fancy about the room, but it was clean and comfortable. there is a safe. tv. You may want to stagger when to go down to breakfast - for it's location was a bit cozy. Great cappuccino.

The staff was terrific... without hesitation printing reservations for museums.

Just a little placard identifies the hotel... we walked by it twice. It's easier to find the Mangiafoco Caffe across the street, if you need a landmark.

Great location: Walking distance to Pitti Palace, Garden of Boboli, Duomo, Bridge of Gold (Ponte Vecchio), Uffizi Gallery, endless eateries.
River view rooms are not a necessity at all.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 165. Ask for a room on the quiet side, opposite the noise of the Arno River side...

You are right! Is Florence - big old 500 year old buildings and no flashing neon signs. We are not allowed to make our establishment "obvious" - we are located in a historically protected building! It's tough but we cannot advertise our presence - hence we put lots of pictures of the door on our facebook page. Glad you enjoyed it.

We stayed here for 2 nights in August. We love the location. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was quite good; we especially enjoyed the cappuccinos. The terrace is quite small but pleasant. The staff is very accommodating and attentive. No reason we wouldn't stay here again. Would have rated it a 5 except for the climb to reception (it was hot in August).

Thank you thank you thank you. I loved everything about your hotel. We wanted to kidnap the adorable Monte and bring him home. You feel like a home away from home in Florence. Please let Monte know that the restaurants he referred were fantastic and the breakfast he packed for us for our early check out came in really handy. Thank you so much for making our time in Florence so memorable, fun, and relaxing. We will be back.

Room Tip: Make sure you find the roof deck!

Hmmm... Monti is ours and you can't have him! Of course you can come back whenever and have him pack you a portable meal! Glad you enjoyed it - these comments mean so much to us and all of our team.

After much research on TA and various other sources we decided upon Hotel Alessandra to begin our Italy trip. I can say without reservation we made the perfect choice!

From the minute we arrived (after the steps and elevator which has been discussed over and over) we arrived to Monti greeting us as if we were an old friend. Throughout our stay Monti was of great help recommending restaurants and making reservations at museums for us! Always greeting us warmly with a smile.

Our room was a double room with a private bath. Not fancy by any means but very "authentic" feeling. Room was cleaned regularly every day with towels and amenities replaced as needed.

Location was perfect! Room was so quiet being on a narrow limited use street. Walking distance to everything was within close proximity. Steps from the river and Pointe Vecchio. We went over to Piazzale Michelangelo for sunset and even that was a fairly easy walk.

The only thing that could have been a little better in our opinion was breakfast. It had a very very limited selection. The quality was fine, just not many choices. But this fact would certainly never deter us from staying there again if in Florence.

We hear you. We really do hear you. Thank you for your great comments (great because they are useful to us!).

Breakfast (as you know) is the only meal that we do (unless it's raining really hard and someone comes back a 4 in the afternoon soaked to the skin - how can you not offer hot tea and biscuits!?)

We are a hotel with a conscience. We do not like to throw away food. During peak months it's really easy to put out 4/5 different fresh cakes in the morning - they disappear in seconds! During lower seasons we try to strike a balance between providing a really good breakfast, but not having loads of food left over too. A fresh cake is a fresh cake - it doesn't get served two days in a row!

Do you understand if we say it's not a money thing, it's a "living in 2013" thing? The world has changed. We don't throw food away.

When I booked a reservation it seemed that this was a "real" hotel. They also suggest that they have a view of the river. Do not be mislead. There is a full flight of steps and then a tiny elevator. The view of the river is from a small terrace from which the river can be seen through two buildings.

The staff are very friendly although I specifically asked for a quiet room and mine was anything but between internal and external sources. Between the noise and very uncomfortable pillows I did not sleep well. Breakfast was merely adequate and not up to what I've seen in other hotels on this trip.

The good news is that the hotel is walkable from the train station and quite in the middle of everything.

Bottom line is that I felt I was mislead about this hotel and if you book there you're paying for the location. I would look for another hotel were I to return to Florence.

Thank you so much for your review. We appreciate all feedback - the good and the bad.

We really understand that we are not for everyone. We have stairs. We have a lift that can be pretty scary/comical. We have some rooms that have a bathroom along a corridor. Sometimes mosquitoes have the sheer audacity to fly in through the windows. Sometimes horses clop by in the street below. A nearby church bell chimes at 9 in the morning.

We also have big big rooms. Our team, including the totally infamous Monti, are fabulous - they are, they are fabulous. We go out of our way to help our guests with extra requests. We run up and down stairs 12 times a day with some ridiculously heavy luggage! We try really hard.

But we have a problem with the word "mislead". Both here and on our facebook page we talk about everything. Our teeny tiny terrace (teeny tiny with a great rooftop view and a slice of the Arno river). Our limits, our vices, our strong points, our excellencies. No this will not do, we do not mislead.

Sorry we were not for you - but we do "sell" ourselves accurately!
