“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013 via mobile

Great hotel with friendly staff especially for the price . I had a small but comfortable single room and it suited me more than fine . The staff and location were great . Free Internet and good bars / Cafes near by.

The Orto de Medici is in possibly the best location in town, situated on a quiet street that has a handful of really good restaurants and bars, but within 10 mins walk of all the major sights and attractions. We stayed in a garden room which was large and comfortable, with a walk in wardrobe and large bathroom. The fridge was useful for putting our own drinks and snacks in, although the minibar prices were more expensive than in Rome. There was a fountain directly outside our window and on a sunny day we could open the windows and appreciate the beautiful little garden without being disturbed by any noise from the road. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too difficult for them. Breakfast was good, but lacking perhaps in variety after a couple of days (maybe vary the pastries or offer different meats/cheeses every other day?). The orange juicer was amazing! All in all, we had a fabulous stay and would highly recommend the hotel.

Dear Guest, thanks for the very nice feedback. We are proud to be the " best location in town" for you! You suggestions were mostly appreciated. I am glad you had a lovely time in the Deluxe room on the garden.
Thank you

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Orto De Medici. The location was great, 5 minute walk from the street market, 7 mins from the Duomo. The staff was really friendly and very helpful with dinner reservations, directions, and booking tickets for museums. Beware, however, of a service fee for reserving your tickets to museums through the hotel.

There is a complimentary continental breakfast every morning on the first floor. It is small, and there might be a wait, but the staff is assertive and accommodating. We only waited 5 minutes and they served us coffee and fresh squeezed juice in a really nice lounge. Breakfast was assorted cold meats and breads, with hard boiled eggs, nutella, jams, cheeses. They also have cereal and fresh sliced fruit. It was great for a quick on the run meal.

The lobby is really nice and clean, looks modern. The girls that work at the front desk were also very friendly and happy to help you navigate your stay in Florence. They made two great dinner recommendations to us, and even made our dinner reservations (go to ZaZa's!). There are two complimentary Mac computer workstations in the lobby as well. For those that can't leave home without their computer... there is complimentary wifi that is fast and reliable.

We had a classic double room and it was a decent size, didn't need anything bigger. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was just fine. Although, the water pressure and temperature in the shower were very poor. Sometimes trickling out cool water after only 5 mins in the shower. Finally, when packing up to leave, I noticed a LOT of dust on the floor around the bed and in the corners of the room.

We would gladly stay at this hotel again, as it really has the potential to be an amazing hotel if they work on the small things a bit more. We did notice they are renovating rooms so I would ask for a new room.

This hotel is so conveniently located to all of the big museums and sight seeing attractions as well as great shopping. We had a deluxe room on the ground floor and stayed for 3 nights. It had a big room with the bed (comfy) TV, with mini fridge. It also had a separate walk in small room for our luggage and clothes hanging. The very big bathroom had 3 separate spaces divided by glass doors. The main space contained a big bath washbasin etc. Then there was the toilet. The 3rd marbled tiled room contained a very excellent shower and the glass door ensured that no water entered the main space. The window opened onto a courtyard and gave good air at night. The hotel was full when we stayed and the noise from other guests was negligible. I would give this hotel an excellent rating except for the fact that breakfast is harried as the room is too small to cope and it is an average offering. The front office service is curt. Parking is expensive and the best way to cope in the tiny streets that surround is to get the valet to take your car away to safe parking (30 euro/night) If you want to park yourself you are given instructions for parking 5 mins drive away and you have to walk back. Self parking costs 10 euro/night less. We chose the valet for obvious reasons. A big bonus if you have been away from home for a while is that there is an automatic coin laundry 2 mins walking away. Cross the road and walk away from the main town direction. Address is: 109/R Via San Gallo. It is called Speedy Express Wash.

Room Tip: A deluxe room might be worth considering.

Dear Guest, I appreciated reading your review, so rich of feedback and suggestions. As regards the breakfast, as the good weather is coming, we just opened our terrace and doubled the space available. We hope you will have the chance to experience it in your next visit, maybe in Spring of Summertime. Thanks also for giving many suggestions to next travellers.
Grazie!

Spent 3 nights at the Hotel Orto de Medici, and enjoyed it. The room was very large with a nice bathroom. The only complaint was that the room was a bit drab, and could definitely use some updating. But besides that, the hotel was overall great for us. Friendly staff, decent breakfast (got a little old by the 3rd morning, but most do) and great location.

My wife daughter and I stayed for a week and found the hotel to be very comfortable and well located for the city sights. We had a triple room on the top floor which had the unexpected bonus of a balcony/roof terrace. The room was generally nicely appointed although it was in need of some high level cleaning and possibly redecoration. The beds, though firm, were comfortable. The hotel while central is not too close to the major traffic routes so external noise was not a problem as it seems to be in some other Firenze hotels. We did suffer some issues with other noisy guests but this is partly due to the preponderance of marble floors and high ceilings - beautiful buildings aren't naturally quiet. Breakfasts were excellent and the staff very knowledgeable and helpful so all-in-all a very pleasant stay.

We stayed at Hotel Orto De Medici in March,. The hotel is centrally located to all the main attractions. The Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, The markets and many restaurants. We had a room for 4 with 1 quenn bed and 2 singles. I found the bed to be hard and the pillows even harder, when I asked the front desk they said all the pillows were the same.. Ughhh. Aside from this the hotel was very nice.. The complimentary breakfast was your typical European breakfast with added hard boiled eggs, cereal, yogurt and fruit. It was very good. Our room did have its own safe.. The bathroom was ok it would have been better if the shower had a shower curtain.. I dont understand why they dont.. It is very hard to take a shower and not get water all over the floor, without a curtain.. As well as the privacy factor. no one else could be in the bathroom when one was in the shower... The hotel also didnt have a bar ,in the event you wanted a drink at the end of your day...Over all I would give this hotel a 7. Like I said the location is great, but it could be even better... I think I would try another hotel the next time I visit Florence.

Dear Guest,
We appreciate any types of comments that can help better our service. It is nice to hear glad you enjoyed the breakfast and found the hotel to be in a very convenient place. I'm sorry you did not find the pillows to be very comfortable, we apologize for not substituting it right away. I'd like to apologize also for the shower inconvenience. This year our bar service will start the beginning of May on the outside terrace, however, reception is always available to serve hot drinks on request. Thank you for writing a review.
Kind Regards,
Nicki Sciortino
