“good location, hot, sweaty and loud.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2009

We found this hotel to be ok. The location to the sites was excellent, however we were on the back side and the noise was awful. Street cleaners and deliveries and garbage pickup all hours of the night. The Doumo(church next door) starts to ring its bells at 7:00am. We found the hotel to be clean and staff to be helpful. No TV or airconditioning just a big fan at the end of the bed. The bathroom however was quite large for most European hotels. The breakfast is just buns, jam, coffee and juice, not very appetizing come day 4 of our stay. We could walk to the train station, Florence is easily walked in one day.

This hotel was one block from the duomo and had a beautiful rooftop garden. It was close to markets, shops, cafes and restaurants. It had a lift but no TV.The room was large but the bathroom was terrible. It was tiny and the shower had no shower curtain so everything got wet. You had to be careful not to slip over. The towels were like tea towels. The room was cold as they turned off the hotel heating but they did give us extra blankets. Breakfast was pineapple cordial, 2 dry rolls, butter and jam and luke warm tea. We had to laugh as we took our own fruit for breakfast and other guests had their own nutella, cheese and ham. It was the first time I have ever taken my own breakfast to breakfast.

I was traveling with my mum and we'd stayed in Paris, Nice, Milan and Venice with no problems, until we arrived at Hotel Medici in Florence - which was the most expensive place we stayed - and by far the worst.
In terms of location this place is fantastic - right in the heart of the city and close to everything, walking distance from the station etc, beautiful views of the Duomo... but we would have been happy to have to walk a further ten minutes to stay somewhere a tad nicer.
Our room - number 207 - was not great, there was a smell to it and the bathroom was disgusting - shower practically over the toilet.
But the girls in the room next door to us had a much better room - maybe it was the luck of the draw?
Going to breakfast each morning was interesting and other guests as well looked confused when they were served nothing but watered down coffee and dry bread rolls. Especially after I'd paid for a buffet breakfast - there was no buffet!

Some staff were friendly but the first lady who greeted us on arrival was not the nicest person.

Anyway just wanted to put it out there! I don't think I'd stay there again, though my opinion might have been different had we had a nicer room and not felt ripped off.

Hope this helps!

This is a small hotel, cozy, friendly staff, good breakfast, clean rooms. The most amazing thing about it is the view. I personally need only few amenities and when i go to a place like Florence, with all its history, gorgeous architecture, wonderful people, the last thing i care about is a gym or a business center. I got a huge room on the top floor and i could see the gorgeous Dome and surrounding buildings from my bed, or from the veranda going all around the building. It was dirtcheap when compared with other places (which after i checked them out just out of curiosity were not that much better). The place is secure, clean, try to get the rooms facing the Dome, especially the ones on the top floor. The staff was very attentive and even though the hotel is so centrally located, there was no noise. A very enjoyable place, especially for art lovers.

This was my wife and my first trip to Italy and had to pick our places based on internet reviews like this one. Depending upon what you want in a hotel, this may be the place for you. It wasn't the place for us. It was reasonably priced. However, there were no real amenities. Their was no television, no air conditioner and the shower was right over the toilet.

I saw some pictures of the other rooms posted on line and they appear to be much better than what we had.

The staff was very friendly. And the location is right next to the Duomo. However, without air conditioning, we slept with the window open and it was really loud given the proximity to the center of the city.

It is a short walk from the terminal. And, had we done it again, we'd find a place closer to the terminal as the city center is an easy walk.

Again, we were cost conscience, but would find a different place if we ever went to Florence again.

If you choose a 5th or 6th floor there is a fabulous view of the Duomo, so close you feel you can touch it. Literally only 2 minutes walk. Breakfast can be a bit monotonous(we were there for 13 nights) rolls, jam and coffee, no variation, but we found a supermarket in via dei Ginori to buy yoghurt, fruit etc. we also found bottles of water for 25c(1/2 lt) or about 60c (1.5lt) much cheaper than cafes etc where they charge 1-2 € .Cans of sprite, fanta etc. are also 60c compared with 2-50€. Only drawback was that there was no fridge, which meant that water was a bit on the warm side. Staff very helpful, and booked me a ticket for the Uffizi to save queuing. I would certainly recommend this hotel for those on a budget, its position makes up for the minor irritations.

The hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the train station and is an easy walk to just about any of the Florence sights. The hotel has deck on the roof to enjoy a glass at the end of the day and the view is spectacular. On the downside, the rooms are quite small and the ensuite, tiny. There is no internet, no airconditioning and the included continental breakfast is quite disappointing (coffee, machine juice, hard rolls, toast and jam - that's it). But overall good value for the cost.
