We chose to stay at the DeRose Palace because the tour we were joining in Florence started there.
The DeRose Palace is a block away from the Arno River, immediately behind the US Consulate. Its in a quiet neighborhood, but still within a reasonable walking distance of the major sights in downtown Florence. For that reason, its not a bad choice.
However - - - to be quite blunt, it's a bit tired. I don't think the building was originally built to be hotel because there doesn't seem to be much consistency among the rooms. It was reasonably clean, but the overall impression was that it had been there for a rather long time and was getting a bit frayed around the edges.
The first three nights we were in a room on the third floor. The room was large enough, but the AC didn't work very well at all. The weather was quite warm, but we were fortunate that we could open a window and get a bit of a breeze. The bath was small but adequate.
The last night we were there we were in a second floor room at the end of the corridor. It was really tiny, and the bath, which featured a jacuzzi, was really tiny. The weather was cooler, so we didn't need the AC - which was good because it wouldn't turn on.
Breakfast is included in the room, and is provided in a tiny breakfast room in the basement. It was adequate, but nothing to get excited about. The one high point is that they offered a good expresso option with breakfast. There is no restaurant although there are a number of very good choices within a few minutes walk of the hotel.
The bed in both rooms was equipped with an unusually firm mattress.
There is a computer in the lobby for guests, and there is wifi in the rooms. The wifi worked reasonably well once you got on, but it often required multiple attempts to get the network to respond.
The staff was pleasant and seemed to care about guests although some had limited English skills.
The price was a bit high for the overall quality, but that may be mainly a function of the location - hotels in Florence tend to be expensive.
