“Perfect and quiet in Florence”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

We have just spent a long week end, the hotel is perfectly located in an incredibly quiet spot 1 minute from Arno and 15 minutes from Piazza della Signoria, easy to reach also by car (get off A1 at Scandicci). Excellent breakfast, high ceiling rooms, nice staff, reasonable price, parking arrangements, we'll surely get back.

I stayed at the Anglo American for a couple of nights whilst on a business trip to Florence, it is a very Classic Hotel with a lot of history knowing that the hotel was home to American and English troops during world war 2 made me feel very patriotic! the rooms are large and the bathrooms of a good standard, the concierge was very helpful throughout out stay and the breakfast was really nice, excellent location near the river and about 15 minutes walk to the dome.

Room Tip: Head from the Hotel to the River for the most picturesque walk to into the Centre of Florence.

if you like the consistency and the lack of character of a large corporate chain then the Anglo American isn't for you. The room had character, it was huge for a start, with a polished wooden floor, prints of Florence on the walls and a huge comfortable bed, every day made up with the crispest white sheets. The bathroom, was a bit tired but spotless, it had large marble sink and
bath you could fall asleep in.
The cheerful, helpful staff all spoke English. Breakfast, elegantly served in a dining room with a beautiful moulded ceiling and pretty 19th century stained glass windows, was tasty and extensive; fresh fruit, different pastries, egg bacon, little sausages , cold meats and cheeses , different teas and excellent coffee. Soya milk was available long with gluten free cereal and bread .
It takes 10 minutes to walk from the hotel into the centre of Florence.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: If you don't want road noise ask for a room ask for a room overlooking the court yard.

checked in on a mid week evening. pretty entry- was told by reception that we had been upgraded in our room and we went up. Room was very tired with the wall paper peeling off at every seam in a large room. I guess the upgrade was the extra single bed that we did not use. The building does not have individual room air conditioning and, in typical European fashion, they had the heat on for all rooms- which we were unable to turn off. left the window open and had street noise, but fortunately not a real busy street in very late hours- still some noise. Breakfast was ok and the hotel is within walking distance of the main parts of town to see.

the biggest asset was the staff. the reception clerks were extremely helpful in pointing us toward restaurants and printing the vouchers to get into the museums.

This was our least favorite hotel on a 12-day tour through Collette's Italian Vistas. The front desk person (Elizabeth) was very friendly and polite but totally overwhelmed by the crowd and could not follow through on any promises. Our a/c did not work, we looked out over some ventilation equipment, the room had old and creepy wallpaper, and the personal safe was broken. We told them when we arrived but they never fixed it so we had to leave our things in our friends' safe. The breakfast meals that came with the room were simply ok and nothing special at all. I would not want to stay here again.

I stayed here as part of a tour and the hotel underperformed in so many ways. The air conditioning was pitiful; it's a good thing that the neighborhood was quiet because I had to leave the balcony doors open to have any chance of sleeping. It's a 20 minute walk or a 10 euro cab ride to the Ponte Vecchio, Duomo, etc. The phone in the room didn't work; the lights by the closet didn't work; the safe in the closet started beeping and wouldn't open (of course, my passport was inside). Bed and shower were OK. Breakfast was decent. Wifi was spotty. Room service menu prices out of date and phone # for room service was incorrect.

Our room was very large by comparison with other hotels we visited in Italy. The bed too was large and comfortable, probably the best we had during our Italian holiday.

Unfortunately the room had what appeared to be a problem with moisture seeping through the wall from the bathroom, resulting in the wallpaper being ruined by the damp. Elsewhere in the room the furnishings were looking very tired.

I had selected the hotel based on its location to the train station which was in easy walking distance. But it was not really located in a tourist area, so there were no restaurants or shops etc. I guess the benefit of that was it was in a quiet neighbourhood, so street noise was not an issue.
