“Outstanding hotel in heart of beautiful Florence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2014 via mobile

I booked this on Booking.com for my family with kids for 3 nights. This great hotel exceeded all expectations. We had a spacious suite facing the Duomo and piazza. We could walk everywhere and took the train from the station which is right near the hotel. Restaurants were close. The breakfast was excellent and plentiful. The rooftop pool area was magical with outrageous stunning views of Florence and the sunset. We were there every evening following our sightseeing and the kids loved it. We tried their tapas and drinks and they were open until midnight. What a unique, fantastic way to stay with children. Rooms and bathroom were clean an comfortable. Highly recommend this gem. Note there is a line in Rick Steves guidebook about the square of Santa Maria Novella having drug addicts - reality is it could not be more family friendly with our kids there in evening without any evidence of this. Finally, prices were very reasonable.

This is a very average city 4 star even though I got a very good deal booking direct

The rooms are a bit tired and bathrooms have old and failing taps etc but the biggest problem are the beds. Old sprung mattresses that have seen better days and pillows that are two bits of hard foam - shut your eyes and you feel like you must be sleeping in a hostel.

If you care about your sleep comforts avoid.

Our aircon broke down too, and we could hear the plumbing for other rooms throughout the night but the staff could not have been more accommodating in moving us to other rooms.

On the plus there is a (small) pool and terrace on the roof.

My advice, you can do better in Florence

We were traveling with an adult daughter and needed a room that could accommodate all three of us. Our travel agent booked us in the Grand Hotel Minerva, and we could not have been more pleased. The room had a double bed, and a sleep sofa that folded out into a single bed, and a curtain to separate the two. It was not a huge room, but we were not there to hang out in the hotel. The hotel has a great location, literally a three-minute walk from the train station, and within easy walking distance of anything you would want to see in Florence. The rooftop bar was delightful, and the breakfast was very generous. I would definitely stay here again the next time I am in Florence.

We arrived as a family of five (3 teenage daughters) after 2 days in Venice. A very short walk from the train station with huge bags - no problem! I had emailed the staff for walking directions and they were EXACT. Specific landmarks helped. The hotel had a rooftop (small) pool with a slightly modern rooftop terrace bar which has special proximity to the adjacent church Santa Maria Novella (I think!!! Lol). It was quite lovely and very relaxing! Walking distance to everything beautiful including a pharmacy and museum virtually on the premises, as well as all important sites and shopping. We were lucky to have the two-story family suite (2 bathrooms!! Yahoooo!) which may have needed a little updating decor wise BUT WHO CARES??? I think there are only two so book early. Sleeping accommodations for five were provided. For the price (breakfast included) this place was a secret gift. In addition, the staff worked tirelessly to help us get a dinner reservation at the last minute (our fault - what were we thinking?) and we all were so grateful and not at all disappointed. This place much exceeded our expectations and we would stay there agin - just for much longer!!!!!!! Also I read all of the other reviews on this site prior to staying and that includes complaints about food and small elevators. These things were just not our experience at all and or were nothing to worry about and I don't know what went wrong there for some people but we had zero problems with these issues and were quite beyond ecstatic !!

We only had dinner on the outdoor terrace there - did not stay at the hotel - but what an experience! Fantastic location - just opposite the facade of Santa Maria Novella church - , great and professional service, fantastic food - possibly the best Fiorentina T-bone steak I ever had in Florence. My daughters were impressed - but all the credit goes to the chefs and the waiters of the restaurant. Special!

This was a lovely hotel for our stay in Florence. Our room very nice, clean, comfortable and quiet, a real winner among the hotels we visited in Italy. Staff was friendly and attentive, and very helpful when we ask questions about the area and how to get around. The location is perfect for walking to the many attractions in Florence, and the train station is a block away with shops underneath. The hotel is located on a neat square that has restaurants and shops around as well as entertainment by local artisans at night. The rooftop pool was small but a perfect place to relax. The view from the roof of the City of Florence was wonderful! We would definitely stay here again. A little far from the airport, but then the airport is on the edge of town. Wi-Fi was a little spotty, but it is a 100+ year old building, so that comes with the territory.....

Room Tip: We were fourth floor corner room and it was wonderful.

My family--two children ages 11 and 13, my husband and I--stayed here for five nights during our trip to Italy and found it to be comfortable and very well located. The staff was extremely helpful in arranging dinner reservations and some last-minute tours of sights such as the Vasari Corridor. We had a car with us and the hotel was quite accommodating in arranging for a garage to pick up the vehicle when we arrived (it is tricky to drive in Florence, as there are--as with many Italian cities--limited traffic zones throughout: we contacted the hotel about our car prior to arriving and they arranged with the police so that we did not receive a ticket for entering the city and then made arrangements for the garage) and had it made available to us when we needed it for day trips. The rooftop pool was great--the view of Florence can't be beat and that fact that the pool was open until midnight was even better! Our family room was perfect--recently renovated, two full bathrooms, roomy closet and separate sleeping rooms for us and the kids (with twin beds, which the kids appreciated). Our only complaint was the food wasn't so great at the restaurant, but with all of Florence available you don;t really need to eat at the hotel. Breakfast was fine and we appreciated that it was included. I would definitely recommend this hotel!
