“"Nice, clean, close to Arno River and points of interest!"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014

My husband & I stayed here in mid-March while traveling with a group with Gate 1 Travel. We welcomed the larger and more modern room (#506) we were assigned. After just visiting Venice for several days, the space was very much appreciated! The lobby with its revolving entrance door was very spacious and the large chandelier was beautiful! Our room was more or less like for a "handicapped person" and had the extra space and fixtures accordingly. We enjoyed the large bathroom with large tub and shower...nice!! The beds were firm but very comfortable and had a large closet with a safe in the corner. The hotel is across the street from the Arno River and a nice walk to points of interest like the Ponte Vecchio, known as the "Old Bridge."
The breakfast buffet was included in our tour and was delicious and plentiful. The eggs and bacon are "soft cooked", but plenty of breads, meats, cheeses, fruits, pastries, cereals, juices and delicious coffee to satisfy everyone.
The heat was on low in our room so we opened our window each night. There was a lot of traffic noise with cars and sirens each night along with the talking noise coming from the room next door. A great restaurant to check out is called La Taverna which is right around the corner and one block behind the hotel..worth checking out. We got there ahead of our tour group and glad we did...small but intimate place to dine!

Room Tip: If you get the chance, choose a room away from the traffic noise!

My college group stayed here for a week in March 2014. I was a bit skeptical after reading previous reviews, it is conference center so don't expect anything too fancy. Definitely get a room in the main building, not the south/west wing (smells smokey, older rooms). Walls are definitely paper thin. Our room had the BEST shower. We were a forced triple, but worked out well seeing we were rarely in the room. Very close to Santa Croce and Ponte Vecchio. I had a wonderful experience in Florence :)

Room Tip: Main building has more updated rooms. West wing/South wing is out of the way and has older rooms and...

Stayed at this hotel for a meeting in the conference center. The conference center is located in an adjacent building. There is a grand lobby and the bar area is huge. There are multiple elevators so find the one that is closer to your room. You can get espresso/cappuccino at the bar as well as drinks and beer. They also make a very delightful hot chocolate. The meals were all provided by the meeting so buffet style but quite good for a group service. However, the coffee in the restaurant was really disappointing with an odd taste. I had a Deluxe Panoramic Room with terrace on the top floor. This was a great room. The terrace is large, with a table and two chairs and plenty of space. There are frosted glass partitions between these rooms. The view overlooked the park across the street, but the trees obscured the view to the river beyond. It was a great place to smoke a cigar. The room was quite large with minibar, flat panel and a large, spotless bathroom. But, this hotel is not located near anything. The closest restaurants were 4-5 blocks away. The route to downtown and Ponte Vecchio is easy, just turn right out of the hotel and keep walking along the river, but it is a long, long walk. One thing to note: We took a taxi from the hotel to the bus station in the afternoon on a Friday. Although it is a relatively short distance to the train station, The traffic was so bad that we were within minutes of missing the train. Took about 45 minutes. Early in the morning on Sunday it's 10 minutes.

Room Tip: Get the Deluxe Panoramic room with terrace. One of these rooms is on the southwest corner and has v...

Hotel was booked by tour group. Excellent location on the river Arno. The lobby is huge and the bar area is really nice. In fact, lots of our group spent quite a few fun times in this area. The rooms were quite nice. The showers are really big. The buffet for breakfast was quite tasty. To walk along the river was pretty cool.

Stayed at the hotel for two nights (in the "newer" tower I was told) in February 2014 as a part of a tour group. Location is great, on the river Arno & walking distance from major sights in the heart of Florence. The restaurant directly behind the hotel (La Taverna) was reasonable, delicious & had a very authentic feel. The amenities themselves here are fine. Small(ish) room, especially if you're an American, breakfast was serviceable if nothing spectacular. Hotel bar was open & lively later on in the evening. It's a solid choice based on location but if you plan to actually relax at the hotel or hang there, choosing one with more going for it would be a wise decision. If it's location & a base for showers & sleep you need, you can't go wrong here & if you're stuck with it as a part of a group tour, nothing to fear...it's neither remarkable nor terrible.

I have stayed here twice in the past 15 years. Both on tours of Italy and each time wound up at the Mediterraneo. I think it is a great hotel for tourists as it is located on the river and a few minutes walk to the Ponte Vecchio. The staff was pleasant, the breakfast nice with a lot of selections but what I remember most especially from the first time I was there was the marble tiled bathroom with the giant tub. Worth a soak. The second time I was looking forward to it but ended up with just a shower, so if you stay there ask for the room with a tub. and if your room looks over the water you have a Room With a View too.

Also, the street behind the hotel has a fabulous little Italian restaurant on a corner. Don't remember the name but it is sort of dark and woody inside, great food.

We stayed her as part of a group tour. Lobby and entrance were very nice, modern and clean. Room was just average, ours looked out onto a noisey parking area. It was only for one night, thank goodness! It was close to the Tuscan Hills where we had an amazing meal and wonderful experience in the countryside...that nmade up for the poor room.
