“Great little hotel with excellent location and wonderful breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

I would not call this hotel a "luxury" hotel, it is a solid 4 star for European standards with a great posh and comfortable lobby and bar, and good service. The location is fantastic if you like to be in the middle of things, which we truly enjoyed. The bedrooms are small, and lack chair(s), the bathroom is nice and modern and has good water pressure and abundant hot water. The beds are a little stiff and the linens are not exactly soft, but these were minor points. We would stay here again if back in Florence.

The main reasons we selected this hotel was location, the fact that it had a bar and a restaurant, and price. We tried to eat at the restaurant one night, but it was totally quiet and the menu was very limited for our children's tastes - the place also looked dated (like a retirement home) so a little investment in this place would add a lot to the hotel. We are usually big on room service, but due to the lack of space and chairs in the room we did not feel that having room service was going to be a comfortable experience.

The price for the hotel was great value for money. We booked 2 rooms through expedia, and then called the hotel to make sure that the rooms would be connected. They were highly efficient in explaining the rooms we booked would not connect because of their category, but adjusted our reservation accordingly (with an extra per night that we would pay at the hotel) and everything was super smooth. The rooms were waiting for us, clean and ready, and exactly what we asked for.

The breakfast was excellent, a favorite for our children in both selection and quality, and the unlimited sparkling wine was the best (few people drink it, to our surprise - maybe we are hard core! :) The prosciutto and cheese offered at the breakfast are one of the best we had in Italy. I read the reviews of travelers that were not impressed by the breakfast, and I have to say I don't know what would they be expecting... how could it be any better???

Service was fine, the concierge helpful and very nice but a little stuck on his pro-forma recommendations I think. We had a couple of trips that were best taken by train, and he seemed quite keen on finding us a car. We highly recommend using the fast train for a day trip in Venice - it only takes 2 hours. We also took a day trip in Rome, only 1.5 hours and while there we used a terrific guy (Rudy's private tour) that we found online - totally doable in one day with plenty of time for a very relaxing lunch. The restaurants that the hotel recommended to us didn't pan out as nicely as we wanted, we like more off the beaten path and it seems that they recommend the usual suspects around the hotel. So we found the concierge service extremely helpful in execution of our plans, but not so much in suggesting them.

The hotel is extremely clean and the cleaning ladies are very friendly, timely and reliable. Time and time again we were in a rush to leave the hotel and didn't have the time to pack away our computers (3 macs, 3 ipads and a couple of phones) and accessories (earrings and bracelets) and change and nothing went missing. We began to rely on the room being safe, and it was.

In conclusion, we were very happy with our hotel choice.

It's hard to beat being one block away from the Piazza della Signoria! This is a gracious old property in a perfect tourist location. The rooms are elegant, and one feels quite privileged to be staying in them. The property is undergoing a minor bit of interior renovation (for code compliance purposes), but in spite of that the place is clean and very comfortable.

The most important thing when you are in a city with so many option to visit and see, is the location, you never get lost, restaurants to choose, museums to choose, everything at your fingertips. The personnel is extremely polite and warm. Breakfast is incredible.
And the old charm of the building is the coziest thing you like when you get back to the Hotel.
Highly recommendable.

The bernini palace is a wonderful hotel, you can tell its old but this is is no way a bad thing. It had a wonderful charm and its also a fantastic location.
The staff were all incredibly helpful and the breakfast was good abs a huge variaty of choice
One member of our party likes coffee at 5am which you could not get at this hotel and also told us the room wasnt properly cleaned each day. But the rest of us had no problems like this.

We've just come back from a great holiday in Florence and the hotel contributed greatly. It has a fabulous location which means it's so easy for negotiating the sights. I contacted them in advance re my use of a walking stick and they were really helpful in getting me a suitable room. The room itself was lovely; superb beds and linens and a nice little alcove with a couple of armchairs. The shower had great pressure - another vital for me. Breakfast had absolutely everything you could want in a stunningly beautiful room. Lastly, the staff was wonderfully helpful, professional and charming. The only thing I don't understand are the moaning minnies in previous reviews. The tuscan floor rooms look dark on the website so if that's an issue, ask for another floor! As for being bored with breakfasts guests could have different breakfasts - continental, italian or bacon and eggs!
It was an ideal hotel for us and I would definitely stay again and recommend to others.

First off, let me say that we'd definitely return to Florence and to the Bernini. Our double deluxe room was quite spacious (especially for Europe), clean and comfortable. The bathroom had plenty of counter space (which is also rare). We also loved the location - just a few steps from the Uffizi and the fantastic Piazza Signoria. However, there were a few small annoyances - the overall service was good, but some of the folks at the front desk had a bit of an attitude and were kind of brusque. Also, the breakfast was second-rate. The selection was only fair, and there was an extra charge (on top of the already high room rate) for eggs and oatmeal. While we were there (for 5 nights) a large group came in and invaded the breakfast room like locusts. I can't fault the hotel for booking in groups, which is their lifeblood, we couldn't get into the breakfast room that morning, which was quite frustrating. There was also a lot of loud construction going on in the hotel, but only during daylight hours. Bottom line for us is despite the few downsides, we'd come back again.

Room Tip: We were on the a floor between 2 and 3 (lots of risers) toward the back and it was very quite. The...

The first thing I do when looking for a hotel is look up the city in TA and punch in my dates. In this case Olotels.com had a considerably lower rate for Bernini Palace than the other booking companies. We went at the tail end of summer so I was a bit concerned that it might be a pricing error or a bad room that they were just trying to sell off but everything was great. The positive reviews you read are pretty accurate.

The room service was fantastic and quick. We never returned to an unmade room. We had no problems with the linen sheets and towels and found them to be quite classy. Most importantly the room was spotless. Some people mentioned dark rooms but we had the exact opposite. I think if you book a regular room you're getting your money's worth here.

I was there as a tourist so the included breakfast was a great start to the day and one of the better breakfasts I've had in that price category room. The great ambiance helps too.

I can't comment on the other food or service options in the hotel. It's Florence so other than the complimentary breakfast we couldn't wait to eat outside of the hotel. Few places in the world have so many great options. Right around the corner was All'Antico Vinaio for a great afternoon sandwich and Vini e Vecchi Sapori for a great casual dinner.

If you get a decent price don't hesitate or worry about this one.
