I thought this being a Boscolo, and having a good experience in Rome we booked a night here in Florence, Like another reviewer we were given a damp smelly room, bitten by a mosqito during the night, and forced to bring up our bags up three flights of stairs. The check in was awful, no welcome, no eye contact, just a woman who looked like she couldn't be bothered, this was really a downer. Unfortunately check out was much the same. The staff are rude and unwelcoming. They make you wait, while they are forever looking at thier computers. There is so much better in Florence, I would look elsewhere.

Room Tip: dont stay here

Brilliant location, however that's where it ends! Had a "superior" room apparently, but halfway up the stairs to it there was a damp smell which got worse the closer you got, and the room itself. Had to have the windows open permanently to make it bearable. Reception staff extremely rude and unhelpful, and questions were answered with one word or a grunt.
Would definitely not stay again.

This hotel has a graceful look to it. The rooms are spacious and overlook a lovely street with cafes and restaurants in it. It is close to the station and all major attractions.
The markets are close by and the shopping district is just around the corner. Great location.
Breakfast was lovely with a great variety to choose from.
The staff was pleasant and the rooms are clean.
This hotel is worth a look at if staying in florence.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with the street view so you can see the night life and people passing by

We arrived at the hotel after an early morning flight and one hour train journey from Pisa. The hotel is a ten minute walk from the railway station. The hotel was very ornate and grand which typifies the Italian hotels I have previously stayed in. Reception staff were welcoming and very helpful. Our room was clean and again quite grand. No view - only on to the street but who goes to Florence to sit in the room. Couldn't be in a better location. 10minutes to the Duomo and most of the other attractions and San Lorenzo market at the end of the road - lovely leather bags, purses etc. Barter you may get a few euros off. Breakfast was ok - continental with scrambled egg and bacon added. Plenty of eating places around the hotel and san Lorenzo area. We had two nice meals unfortunately I can't remember the restaurant names but they were all pretty much the same menus and prices. Try the Italian ice cream - I've never seen so many flavours. We did an open top bus tour and also a walking tour. The walking tour was free - you just give the guide a few Euros. This walking tour lasted 90mins and was very informative about the historical centre of Florence. I would love to return to Florence and would probably would return to the Boscolo Astoria as the location was spot on.

Whilst the staff were pleasant they did little to help when we had no hot water in our bathroom for 2 days . They were not prepared to give a discount . A packed breakfast was supposed to be avaiable on the day of departure but none was avaiable. The breakfasts were o.k but you have to be an early bird as they do not replemish once the food has gone. Hope you like cold scrambled egg.

Room Tip: If you want hot water go to another hotel . The staff will not to help.

Just read some of the other reviews, good and bad. All I can say is this hotel ticked all the boxes for myself and my husband. We came to Florence to stay in a hotel that typified what we expected a hotel in Florence would be like, and that is what in our opinion we got. We wanted to see Florence not log onto a computer, so maybe this hotel would not be suitable for business trips. Our room was in the new quarter, but the room was decorated in a traditional design with beautiful paintings on the walls. It was up a few flights of stairs, so not convenient for for guest who are not very mobile. But sadly it did not have a view, if you want a view ask reception if you can go on the roof terrace, what a view and photo oppotuninty, we were staying in March so it was too cold to have dinner there but I imagine it is open in the Summer months. The breakfast was typical continental and we loved it, yes the coffee was in a thermos, it was hot and tasted great, and we are very fussy about our coffee. The breakfast room was fantastic, without doubt the most beautiful room I have ever had breakfast in, beautiful high ceilings, amazing paintings, it was superb. Staff great, helpful when you need it. We had never vistied Florence before, words can't describe how beautiful it is, lovely locals, not too pricey seeint this is Italy, however some coffee stops were pricey but in our opion worth paying for the beautiful scenery all around, and there is no better place to people watch!! I also think it's worth mentioning how surprisingly reasonable the price of leather bags are in the central market, just a ten minute walk behind the hotel. Great short break, would go again!

Room Tip: be great to pre book a room with a view if poss

We visited Florence last year and decided to stay at this hotel. We arrived from Venice by train and the hotel was just a couple of blocks away from the train station and can be reached on foot in under 10 mins. The location is amazing as it is near all the major tourist attractions - The Duomo in fact is hardly a 5-10 mins walk.
The check-in was quick and easy, the staff polite and were happy to help us with our queries. The room itself was comfortable but not overt. The hotel has some historical charm but in parts also seems quite old and in need of a facelift. The breakfast room was grand with an amazingly intimidating but grand ceiling. The wifi worked only in the lobby area - a bit of a downer.
Overall, a decent stay. Great - if you are using train as a mode of transportation in Italy.
