“Pleasantly Surprised”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2011

Booked 3 days before check in date due to a sudden change in plans and both my husband and I were very pleasantly surprised. I have been to Florence on numerous occassions over the years and while this hotel is just a "bit" out of the hustle and bustle (and more importantly shopping!), this could also be one of its better assets. Could walk to the Ponte Vecchio in 10 minutes by turning right out the front door and following the river. Can't get lost. Beautiful room with balcony (419) with the BEST view of the city I have ever had (and I've been to much more expensive hotels than this one). The Santa Croce neighborhood has some of the best trattorias and wine bars and its just steps from the hotel. The breakfast was OK but lousy cappuccino (no excuse here!). You can see that this was a very elegant hotel in its day and the decor has not changed in style much, but overall a clean, spacious hotel that I would return to again. Great value.

This small boutique hotel is right on the Arno River. We stayed on the top floor (4th) and had a beautiful terrace overlooking the river. Room size was adequate and very clean and neat, bathroom was large although the shower was a bit small. Breakfast offerings were plentiful. The staff, especially the concierge Romano, couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. Free Wi-Fi in the lobby. Convenient to all of the 'must see' sights. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floor with a terrace ... they usually accommodate requests.

Plaza Lucchesi did it again. We just returned from a 6 night stay and I have to say everything was as good or better than the last visit. Fantastic room! (416). Our room was beautifully furnished complete with antique accents, wonderful bed/ bath linens, and an amazing breakfast spread served buffet style. Special requests are accomodated when asked, cappuchino or a fried egg, no problem. The concierge arranged for an airport pick for our family/group of five. Requested tickets to Accademia were waiting our arrival. I really have a hard time finding fault with this hotel. This hotel has become our home in Firenze. Bravo!

I arrived to the Plaza Luccesi after spending the night at a hotel near by. The other hotel was full so we walked dow to ask for a night here. Simone was so helpful and professional. The greatest reception staff to be sure. The bell door man was so attentive and considerate. People are just friendly and great here. We were accomodated into an amazing triple room, with a view that takes your breath away.

I am so excited about this place. Super clean, pictures do not do justice. Close walking to everything. Very central. The view of the river is just amazing. This should be #1 hotel in Florence.

Great job, Plaza Lucchesi

Room Tip: Best Hotel in the City. Ask for Simone. She was helpful. I tip the service peopole all the time. Do...

We spent five nights at the Hotel Plaza Lucchesi (2/19/03 - 2/24/03) and had a terrific time. The Hotel staff was terrific (especially the night concierge, Michael).
The single best reason for staying is to get a lovely room right on the River Arno, overlooking the Piazza Michelangelo, San Miniato on the Hill, Fort Belvedere, and the Porto San Niccolo.
When we "threw open the shutters and windows" on the afternoon of our arrival, we just looked at each other and grinned! We KNEW we were in Florence--no doubt about it. Beautiful views of all of the above--incredible sunrises and sunsets on the river and hills, warm, sunny southern location. While on the eastern "outskirts" of traditional tourist areas, the hotel was very close to everything. The furthest we had to walk was about 20-30 minutes at a leisurely pace to get to Santa Maria Novella.
Now, that is about ALL that made this hotel great. The complimentary breakfast was at best uninspired and mediocre. The coffee was horrid (a sin in Italy). The bed was in terrible condition, sagged every way a bed could sag. Linens smelled odd, and room was so smoky (non-smoking room doesn't mean much in the smokestack environment of Italy) that my asthma was going beserk. We could barely breathe and had to sleep with window open and heat blasting (it was quite cold at night) to make it through the evening. Showers were designed by a moron--there is only a small partial door across the tub, so whenever you shower, the bathroom was flooded (no kidding). Bathroom had adequate amenities (hairdryer, toilet, bidet, tub/shower). Rooms have NO soundproofing. We heard everything that everyone next to us and above us did--and I truly mean everything (using the bathroom, bathing, opening doors, drawers, windows, etc.). Had we not been so exhausted and come with a terrific supply of sleeping pills from my doctor who had been there before, we would have been completely unable to handle the smoke and noise.Would we stay at Lucchesi again--very likely. We saw very few reasonably priced hotels (and we got our rooms at the Lucchesi for a terrific $120/night in a PERFECT location on the river with that killer view, through a great tour packager) with better environment and location.
We would probably pack a small fan next time (to suck smoke out of room and into the night) and would have to have the ear plugs and sleeping pills again.
p.s. I am very grateful to the staff that upgraded us at no charge from the depressing dismal dark "standard" room that came with our original package to a primo room on the river. Had I been in that room this would have been a one-star review.

Room Tip: Request in advance a room ON THE RIVER

We stayed for a week in this hotel. Booked a superior room. We had hoped to have a river facing room but had been allocated one with a view of the city - and what a view!! We faced the Santa Croce and had a lovely view of the hillside. We also looked out over the city and felt we could almost touch the Duomo - it looked so close. The hotel is very close to everything yet is very peaceful. We had a balcony room on the 4th floor and would really recommend it. Room 420.

The service in the hotel is excellent and nothing was too much trouble.

Room Tip: Choose room 420. Has a balcony and is on the 4th.
