“Roof terrace in Baglioni Hotel: one step to Paradise!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

Hotel is well situated and very close to the railway station and the to center of Florence. Very well furnished and clean. The staff members in the restaurant, bar and reception are very pleasant and helpful. The roof terrace/breakfast room with an open view on Brunelleschi's cupola is amazing!

I hate to write a negative review, but I hope that my words will help change this place for the better so that others can have a more enjoyable experience in the future. Let me just start by saying that the staff here is excellent. They were friendly and extremely helpful, and the bartender Marco on the rooftop made the best drinks I have ever had in my entire life. Also, the views from the rooftop are stunning and may be the best in all of Firenze. The hotel itself is in a great location, just blocks away from S.M. Novella train station and walking distance to just about every attraction Firenze has to offer, however, it is very old and rundown and needs to be renovated. Also, the views from the room overlook an abandoned hotel covered in graffiti making the stay slightly unpleasant. The plumbing here is awful, giving the entire building an old musty/mildew smell, and the bathtub and sinks back-up leaving dirty water quickly building up and overflowing. Things like this should not occur in a "4-star" hotel. I hope that this place makes some major changes in the near future to become more modern, because it has the potential to be one of the nicest hotels in Firenze if they would just catch up with the times.

Hotel is well situated and within site of the railway station and a short walk away. Hotel is well furnished and staff in the restaurant and bar are very pleasant and helpful.

The room was large, with large bathroom and small hallway. Shower area above bath was a bit tired and in need of some TLC overall a very good room.

We chose the Hotel for a weeks stay to celebrate our 25th Wedding anniversary, and its roof terrace with views over Florence was one of the reasons for booking the hotel, together with its location and easy walk into the centre of Florence and its museums.

The roof terrace is our biggest disappointment. Whilst you would expect as a paying guest access to the terrace this was not the case on 24th June.

The Hotel clearly market the roof terrace as a location for corporate events and private parties. We shared the terrace on three nights with a fashion show party, wedding and a gathering of priests. The 24th June our anniversary and celebrations at Florence including fireworks was a different matter. The roof terrace was closed to guests who did not wish to take part in a €79 head meal and views of the fireworks, no payment no access to the roof terrace. I did not read anywhere that the roof terrace may not be accessible to guests on certain dates, the important date was on our booking form.

On booking I was under the impression that there was unrestricted access to the roof terrace by Hotel guests, not the Hotel being able to close it to host a private function. Their response to this matter was posted on their Facebook page to the effect we were unlucky our anniversary coincided with the closure of the terrace for their financial gain. If the roof terrace is important to you check you can access it during your stay. The response from the hotel to their Facebook page is as follows.

“we are so sorry with what happened with you. Usually our ‪Terrazza Brunelleschi is open and available to everybody. In this case it just happened that luck didn’t get on our side and your silver wedding anniversary day coincided with a private party and with the “San Giovanni” day, the traditional day of the fireworks for our city.
I’m sure you were able to enjoy our beautiful terrace in other moments of your stay and appreciate the incredible view from it.
Hopefully we will have the chance to host you again for your golden wedding anniversary. Or even before…!
Have you already left the hotel?” No I was still there and pretty disappointed with the response. They did not come back to me.

A nice hotel but marked down due to lack of access to the roof terrace on an important personal date which would have made the evening but alas it was not to be.

Room Tip: Room 318, spacious and not overlooking courtyard

This is a wonderful place to stay - perfect and central location, great service, quaint rooms, and without a doubt, the best rooftop terrace that Florence has to offer! Hotel stay includes an expansive breakfast with Prosecco. My only suggestion would be to make the terrace service earlier and the bar service open all day.
Would stay here again "in a heartbeat."

This hotel is excellent - the staff are helpful, the rooftop offers great views and it's the perfect location for a short trip to Florence.
The rooms are big by Italian standards and the air conditioning is very welcome. The wifi is also very useful when researching places to eat etc.

Literally a block from the main train station was a real positive. Easy to walk to major attractions. Room was nice - especially if you favor historic over modern and new. Concierge was extremely helpful. It was hot in June and A/C was marginal at best. Fairly expensive relative to other places we stayed. So-so.
