“Dark rooms but comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

The hotel is a very old building as are most in Florence. The room was very comfortable and very well appointed but very dark there were only two lights and the window opened to an inner courtyard that had very little light. The furniture was dark and the room was panelled in dark wood.

If you want to be within walking distance of Florence's great sights and museums this is a delightful place to stay. We spent 5 days soaking in the Florentine Renaissance and 5 evenings soaking in the bath at the end of each day. Our large room was on the 1st floor with a high ceiling lined with beautiful walnut. It faced onto a main street so was a little noisy at night but did not disturb our sleep. The inclusive buffet breakfast was typical north Italian hotel fare, a good range of pastries, cereals and fruit as well as hot food but the view was STUNNING; the Duomo is in full view with not another building to spoil the sight line; it lifted our spirits even more every morning, the restaurant is on the 5th floor. Dinner was a wonderful experience too with the spotlights on the Duomo, but the meal was expensive. We certainly hope to revisit in the future.

This hotel is 5 minutes walk from the main railway station so its a doddle to get to. The hotel looks like it need a bit of a spruce up here and there but its olde world charm makes up for it. The rooms are not huge but we were there to sightsee not sit in our room. saying that the rooms were big enough for us. The breakfasts were great and it was only a 10 minute walk to the centre of Florence. The staff were ok as we have seen better from Italian hotels. The best spect was the rooftop gardens which were great. one thing though - they rent out the rooftop for parties and weddings so when this happens your not allowed up there. Overall we aould stay here again

Room Tip: get a room with a view so go high

Recently spent some time at the Grand Hotel Baglioni in Florence. It is a beautifully restored palace with easy access to the main train station. The location was close to the Plazza Del Duomo and the Cathedral of Santa Maria. Rooms were small but beautifully appointed. My room had a nice balcony with plants surrounding the red tile terrace. Shopping was nearby. The restaurant at the top of the hotel had a nice view of the city. Staff was very helpful. Free internet but I could only get it in the lobby.

Received a warm welcome at the Grand Hotel Baglioni where we were celebrating our golden wedding anniversary. We received an upgrade to a lovely room and were presented with a complimentary bottle of Prosecco. The location was perfect for visiting the sights of Florence, handy for the railway station to visit Pisa and easy to find. The Brunelleschi restaurant on the fifth floor has magnificent views of the Duomo and Bell Tower and the service provided by the staff was excellent. Breakfast was very good with a wide selection of both hot and cold food. We would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Florence.

Room Tip: Booked through Citalia and got a free room upgrade. Room allocated was a junior suite on the third f...

Well situated near station and all the wonderful places that Florence has to offer. This hotel is popular with tourist coach groups due to the fact that it provides good access for the buses. So it can be very busy and crowded which tends to overwhelm individuals and couples. This meant that breakfast was rushed and the staff clearly flustered. Might add that the breakfast offerings did not reflect the high prices this hotel charges for its rooms however the views over the city are charming.

The first room we were taken to was very dark and depressing, largely due to the large, dark furnishings and a tiny window (4th floor, opposite lift). In addition, the minibar had someones previous nights leftovers still in it. Euwww. After a minor standoff with the reception staff we were finally moved the next day to a room with a larger window for the remainder of our stay, which was charming (3rd floor).

Our dinner at the hotels rooftop restaurant was unfortunately as disappointing as the breakfast and expensive, although, again, the view was wonderful.

In our opinion there are other other hotels a little further from the station, but would not be so popular with tour groups and thus less frantic.

Room Tip: 4th floor has small windows leaving rooms dark. Avoid being near the lift, it can get noisy.

My husband and I spent 4 nights in this well-established hotel in the Santa Maria Novella area of Florence. We had a splendid room on the third floor looking towards the Santa Maria Novella Church, and enjoyed looking out on the bustling activity outside. The room had a huge tester bed - extremely comfortable - and the bathroom was well appointed, with luxurious toiletries. Towels and sheets were changed daily. Breakfast offered excellent choices, although these were exactly the same each day. Dinner menu was unchanged over the four days and it seemed this was permanent! We tried several selections and found the portions to be particularly generous, but not to our taste. The price, I feel, was expensive for the quality of cuisine, but Florence is an expensive city. Concierge staff were very helpful, but reception staff could be described as bordering on rude. Of the two lifts serving the five floors, one was out of order for half of our stay, and there was no sign of any repair being effected when we left. The situation of this hotel is ideal for a visit to Florence.
