“Very happy with room and service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013 via mobile

We just got back from Florence and stayed here for 3 nights. We were very pleased! Our room had a very large balcony and a king sized bed that was very comfortable. The staff was very nice and the room was clean and very well appointed. It was nice being out of the busy part of town and we walked to the city center in about 15 minutes. We also had great breakfast buffet and also had a nice dinner here as well. I travel a lot and would recommend this hotel to anyone that wants a good hotel that is fair on price and good on service and quality.

We had emailed the hotel prior to leaving the US, asking for one of the rooms with a terrace (they only have a few)... on arrival we were greeted by friendly staff, they took our bags, parked our car, and check-in was a breeze. Room was plenty big, large king bed, lots of room for clothes, nice bathroom with jacuzzi tub and shower. The room featured a huge terrace, overlooking the quiet courtyard of the hotel. I loved that this hotel was not on a main street, but a side street - very quiet, yet still easy to get anywhere you wanted. It's about a 10-15 min walk from the hotel to the Ponte Vecchio, to give you an idea. The hotel serves a great breakfast, which was included in our room rate. Fruits, cheeses, pastries, breads, eggs, bacon, sausage, cold meats, cereals, fresh orange juice (squeezed right there), great coffee and more. The desk and concierge staff were friendly and helpful.

Hotel Wifi is free and fast, and no troubles connecting.

This is a luxurious hotel, and I recommend it highly.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a terrace.

I stayed here for 4 nights for vacation and loved our hotel. The rooms were very nice and this was by far our favorite hotel while in Italy. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The food was good and the beds were comfortable! Easy 10-15 minute walk to everything in Florence.

We loved the Montebello Splendid. Staff was very courteous. They even agreed to keep a very heavy bag of ours while we flew to Dublin so we wouldn't have to deal with it on the plane. The train station is in easy walking distance. We loved the quiet neighborhood for sleeping. The walk to the Arno was just two blocks! We liked not being right in the middle of all the hustle but near enough to it to join in when we wanted to. I highly recommend this hotel.

Recently stayed here two nights during our 2-week Italy trip...best hotel we stayed at.

The Good:
- Nice rooms & bed
- Modern bathroom/shower
- Cleanliness
- Staff

The Bad:
- Location. Was hard to find and we got lost a few times trying to walk from the train station. Once we realized the easiest way to find the hotel is the follow the river towards the US Consulate, then turn right, it was not a problem.
- Location. On the western-side of the main part of town. There are other hotels closer to the "action", but it wasn't a huge issue.
- Wifi. We weren't a fan of they way you have to log-in to the Wifi. It requires using your email & password or Facebook account info. Perhaps I'm a little paranoid, but I don't care for this method and it was different than the other hotels we stayed at.
- Cost, but that's to be expected from a 5-star hotel. Florence does have a 10 Euro per night city tax, so expect that to be tacked on to your bill on checkout.

We'd stay here again despite the location. Very nice hotel.

Dear omahaeater,
Many thank for staying at Montebello Splendid and posting your wonderful review on this website.
I’m glad that all the services of the hotel met your expectations and contributed to offer you a pleasurable stay in Florence. It will be a pleasure to have you again with us on the next occasion.
Regarding your small issue, I’d like to clarify the followings: city tax is €5,00 per person per night; it’s not an hotel tax but we are in charge to collect it (for free) on behalf of the city government.
Our new wifi system is offering you the chance to use internet free of charge simply connecting with one of the most important email account or social networks like gmail, yahoo, Hotmail, facebook, tweeter, linkedin, instagram, etc. – we don’t have access to your credential, but it’s the email account or social network that give to our server the OK to navigate. That’s it. In this way you don’t have another user and password to remember, but easily on of those you frequently use.
On behalf of the whole staff, I’d like to thank you again for staying with us and I wish you all the best.

Kind regards,

Riccardo Fracassi

I had the recent opportunity to stayat this lovely hotel

The room I had was outstanding , bed was comfortable , plenty of space. Only drawbacks on the room was the shower was small for a big person and it was difficult to understand how to set and manage room climate system.

Food was outstanding , it was quiet at night and had easy access to many local shops , restaurants , et. Easy transportation to and from Train station and airport

Staff was incredable, very helpful friendly.

Would stay ther again without hesitation

If you are a business traveller and don't want to have any contact with anyone including staff, not even a "Hi have a nice day", AND have lots of money as your company pays for everything AND a taxi pics you up at the front door, this is the perfect hotel for you! Staff are all formal and to the point. The guy that checked us in around 11 pm (we did let the hotel know in advance about our late arrival & their reception desk is open 24 hours), was not really friendly.
To get some ice to your room, it's three Euros plus tip. There is no bar fridge, unless you pay a premium to have one in your room. No good supermarkets nearby, so if you are a budget traveller, forget about this area -you have to pay for everything extra for example a cup of morning coffee.
The ventilation in the room was a bit poor & the room a bit noisy in the mornings. The bedding are very good quality; the room is medium size; the bathroom only have a shower but everything in the hotel is in excellent condition. The sitting area next to the lobby is lovely and smart as well as the magnificent small garden.
Public transport is not really nearby & the area is sort off dead in the evening especially. So if you're a business traveller or straight couple loaded with money, your stay will be a great one!

Dear Drgoodtravel,
Thank you for staying at Montebello splendid and sharing your experience on tripadvisor. It’s not easy to reply to your review, because you enjoyed and appreciated the quality of the hotel, but you would like to pay it as a budget hotel. Well, to be honest with you, our rates are usually 30-50% less expensive than other 5 stars property in town and sometimes even more convenient than some lower category hotel. We are committed to offer a good value for money.
In our neighbourhood you can find 4 nice cafeteria, many local restaurant, two well stocked supermarkets, a pharmacy and a bus stop, all from 100 to 200 meters walking distance. You are right, it’s not a lively area at night, but is safe and very quite – maybe you would complain if you have scream and noise all night long under your window.
Every rooms have a well stocked minibar and deluxe rooms have a complimentary tea and coffe maker facility. Our business is to sell room, food and beverage; if you book and pay for accommodation only, I believe it is correct from our side to charge for the extra F&B you order.
I hope you will read this reply as a friendly exchange of point of view. Please consider myself at your complete disposal whenever you should need further information.

Kind regards,

Riccardo Fracassi
