A simply wonderful experience. The hotel is very centrally located, almost alongside the Palazzo Vecchio but facing on a quieter side street. The hotel does not serve food, however they are located in the piazza just a few doors down from a wonderful bar that does breakfast, lunch, aperitivo, and so on. As an American, often the disappointments in european hotels are the bathrooms and the beds. Not so here--the beds are large and comfortable, and the bathrooms compare favorably to even luxury suites in the US. It was the first time after many months in Italy that I did not miss my shower at home.
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. And if you need something, they will definitely help you find it. Reception does close, though there's an emergency number to call at night. To get in and out after hours, you'll have a code to the front door. We never had any issues with this.
The WiFi has issues, however there were ethernet cables available and that fixed the problem for me. They do also have laptops to loan if your connection is impossible or you only have a tablet or something that cannot connect via ethernet. Some of our group were able to connect to the WiFi, but particularly those of us using Macs relied on the ethernet. The rooms all have Sky, which means lots of TV options if you're staying in at all (and Sky has an option to view programming in the original language, so I was able to watch The Walking Dead in English or Italian as I chose).
If you are looking for a nice night in, some of the rooms have little cabinet kitchens with fridges and stuff, there's a grocery just a few blocks away, and there's a shop on Via dei Neri that sells sandwiches, including possibly the best porchetta sandwich I've ever had, at exceedingly reasonable prices.
One tip--in my experience, cab drivers sometimes had a difficult time finding the hotel and didn't always know the piazza. We took to telling them it was on the corner of Via della Condotta, and generally resolved the issue.
Really you can't go wrong here. If you've stumbled onto this gem and they have availability, book it now.
