“Good Value for Money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2014

I stayed at the Hotel Golf for a couple of nights this summer (2014) and had a quite pleasant experience.
Very helpful concierges that were able to advise and provide hints for restaurants to visit. I also believe it was Marco who took one look at my stature (6'3") and stated 'I think I put you in a room with a bigger bed" - Thanks!
The hotel is situated just outside the Restricted Traffic Zone (Zona Trafico Limitato) of Florence but well within walking distance of the city centre and other areas with plenty of nice restaurants and the sights of the city.
Beware the only golf relation is the golfballs as key-hangers .. I asked why and it appears that it dates back to the establishment of the hotel some time in 70'ies when golf was emerging as a travelling purpose but still somewhat elitist. Now they keep it on as a curiosity!
Breakfast adequate but not more. Room clean and tidy with a fine AC and spacious bathroom, a safe and small fridge/minibar.
All in all good value for money.

Room Tip: Towards the court yard/parking sway from the main street.

Hotel Golf was very good to us as we were forced to stay here due to driving rains making it near impossible for us to reach our reservation in san gimignano. We drove around Florence looking everywhere for a place to stay and Hotel Golf was the only hotel willing to accommodate us. The maître d - Marco - was kind, honest and offered me two room options. I opted for the more expensive room as the emergency room is very basic not that our room was much more luxurious but it ticks all the boxes you expect. The room is clean, has a safe, tv, mini-bar and closet space. The hotel itself is within walking distance from the train station and not too far from the main attractions. The wifi is good, the breakfast is basic and the amenities low. The value you derive per euro spent is not as high as you could get at other hotels but the people are kind and honest - both Marco and Luigi went out of there ways to help us.

On arrival this hotel seemed a little dated. This was only apparent in the communal areas. The rooms were very modern. The AC was a little cold and we were unable to set the temperature to stay comfortable. The fact that the floor was tiled also left the room cold in appearance and a little uncomfortable. The hotel was very clean and tidy. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The on-site parking was essential for us so this is a massive bonus for the hotel. In saying this the parking was limited and we were fortunate to have arrived when there was a space. Our two days and two nights in Florence were lovely. Plenty to do and see, day and night. The biggest bonus for this hotel is the location. It was far enough from the centre to allow easy driving into the city, but was only a perfect 10/15 min walk to the lively centre for shopping/eating/drinking and wonderful sites. We did not feel unsafe while walking back through the quieter areas in the evenings. The breakfast selection was not very extensive, but was acceptable. The only downside to this hotel was that there was not enough seating at the breakfast area. We were forced to either wait to eat or stand with a quick bite before heading out.

We booked a 2 nights stay - the hotel is very close to the city center just 5 minutes walk from the train station - our room was spacious and well cleaned however we were not impressed with the joined mattresses which would go separate ways at night leaving a gap - the room was provided with a mini-bar, however with no info on beverage price; the breakfast room is tiny and with good selection of croissant, breads, jams etc, but their coffee from the machine totally awful!!! on the second day the coffee machine had a problem and it was funny looking at one of the maid stepping on the chair to fix it! The staff at the reception is nice ... the maids at the breakfast room rude and sad looking creatures. I am sure I would recommend this hotel to friends or whether I would return though

Room Tip: ask for a renovated with a proper double bed

The hotel is easy to find and the secure parking lot was available (cannot be reserved) for our one night stay. The room was comfortable and spacious and the breakfast was good. Although it is not far to the entry to the train station, the walk directly to the center was further than we had anticipated, so we took a taxi a couple of times.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the parking lot, so it was very quiet. The hotel is on a busy street, so avoid...

We stayed for 4 nights when visiting Florence. The room was comfortable. The provision of a second pillow was welcome. The air conditioning was very good.

The staff looked after our room very well and the bathroom was alway clean.

The breakfast was buffet style and constantly refilled. The coffee machine was interesting as when pressing decaf I am not not sure if that is what I received or a macchiato!

Desk staff were friendly. This may be because we did attempt to talk Italian.

Ideally situated for a visit to Florence with free and secure parking, and a short walk into the centre.

Down side was the noise from other residents. On the first night it sounded as if it was people out in the corridor. When I investigated they were in a room down the corridor and around the corner!

We stayed 4 nights as part of a Tuscany tour. The room was clean and the air con worked. The staff were very helpful. There's free parking but you cannot book a space. The hotel is about 5 mins from the train station and about 15 mins from a few sights, 15-20 from the Duomo. Not at all bad for the price.
