“The place to stay in Florence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2012 via mobile

A delightful place to stay. A walm welcome which extends throughout the stay. We have been allocated Room No. 31 which is one of the recent additions, and overall it has been bellamisso!! Spacious, spotless - with a lovely bedroom (bed hanging from the ceiling), a modern bathroom and a lounge room. To top it up a magnificent balcony the size of a room with a view to the amazing Duoma. There is free Internet/wifi, free initial mini bar, ability to make overseas phone calls, and a happy hour and a half every night, ie wine and nibblies, not to mention breakfast - mainly comtinental, but eggs and bacon are available, as are expresso or cappucino on request. There are also laundry provisions Out of the old town but a 20 minute walk to the old city, or alternatively, the bus stop is just outside. A comfortable, friendly environment. We wouldn't consider anywhere else in Florence.

We planned our 2 month trip to Europe well in advance and booked most of our accommodation by following recommendations on Trip Advisor. Most delivered to our expectations BUT the Hotel David FAR EXCEEDED them!

From the Warm welcome, spotlessly clean rooms, wonderful breakfasts and the close proximity to busses and easy access to all of the key tourist sights.

Our room was wonderful and we will never forget the glorious colours of watching the sunset over the Duomo.

When I win the lottery I am going to book out all of the rooms at the Hotel David for a whole month and bring everyone I love from around the world so that they too can experience what we just have. It is priceless.

Whats NOT to LOVE...elaborate breakfast Buffet (think freshly made cappuccinos, eggs, bacon, made that day pastries, etc.), happy hour filled with wine/beers and endless appetizers, free internet plus a public computer station/Ipad for guests to use, the most friendly staff we encountered on our entire journey, and rooms/bathrooms that have been recently remodeled. They truly care about the comfort of your stay and go out of their way to help ensure you have the best Florence experience. The hotel is totally walking distance from all major attractions (without being surrounded by tons of tourists and tourist trap restaurants). I cannot say enough great things and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for the a room on the top floor with "a view"...its not an additional charge and you o...

Stayed here for part of our honeymoon in April and we weren't dissapointed! Our room was amazing with a roof top terrace with a great view of historic Florence and the Duomo. The room was spotless and beautifully furnished and decorated with a fantastic bed and stunnign bathroom / shower. Staff were incredibly helpfull and accomodating giving us directions and advice as to where to eat and what to see. They even bagged us a couple of reservations for the Ufizzi at extremely short notice... no mean feat!

The hotel is a bit out of town but it's a pleasant walk along the river and the bus is really easy to catch (with tickets available from reception) if you want to save some of your strength for walking up the duomo!

Staying in Hotel David really made our honeymoon and we were sad to leave, small touches like complimentary mini bar and afternoon happy hour / apertifs really help this hotel stand head and shoulders above the rest!

Room Tip: Politely request a room with a view and you may be lucky enough to get one of the roof terraces on t...

We booked this hotel 4 months in advance of our trip and am so glad we did. It was the best stay of our 4 city tour of Italy. The staff were very kind and helpful – on two separate occasions when we asked for directions, they walked out the door and pointed to be sure we knew where we were going. They also provided a map that had a list of restaurants on the bottom – we used this as our guide and had 4 of the best meals during our trip. The room was clean and luckily, had double windows, which kept out all of the street noise. The bathroom was a good size and the shower was very large by European standards. They provided one free mini bar during your stay which was a nice touch. There is also a nightly “happy hour” in the garden with drinks and light snacks. Breakfast was great and had plenty of options – the standard eggs, meat/cheese tray, pastries, yogurt, etc and they made cappuccino for you if requested. The room was quite large so we never had an issue getting a table when we wanted to eat. They also allowed you to make a 10 minute phone call home each day and have laundry facilities in the basement.

The hotel is located on the other side of the Arno from the main attractions, so is a bit out of the way, but Florence is a very walkable city - just wear comfy shoes. It was a probably a 20-25 minute walk to the Duomo. We only used the bus once, upon our arrival to get from the train station to the hotel. This property truly goes above and beyond and made our stay in Florence one to remember.

This small, friendly hotel was a fabulous find through Tripadvisor. It is effectively a bed and breakfast but it offers so much in the way of extra touches, you can see why it gets such good reviews. It is beautifully clean. There is a free mini bar with soft drinks, beer and snacks in each room. There is a happy hour each evening (which actually runs from 6.30-8.00) which not only offers free wine and soft drinks, but all sorts of snacks too, from quiche to marinated aubergine and peppers, nuts, dips, etc
Breakfast was very pleasant. WiFi is free and there is also free use of 2 computers in the lounge areas. The hotel also offers a free daily 10 minute phone call home.
We had a room on the third floor which actually had 2 balconies. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and again beautifully clean. (The only thing I would have liked in the room that wasn't there, was a full lenth mirror.)
The staff are extremely friendly and obliging and before visiting any emails I sent were answered really efficiently.
The hotel is approximately a 15 mins walk to the Ponte Vechio but there is a bus just outside the hotel which also goes there.
A piece of advice - if taking a taxi from Florence airport, there is a fixed rate of 20 euros +1 euro per bag. If taking a taxi from the hotel back to the airport this fixed rate only applies if taking a taxi from the rank and not if you ask the hotel to call one for you.

Dear Guest,

Nice to hear from you....i see you enjoyed the no wondow room we have made for the balconies lovers! I have to clarify the situation we have with taxi here in Florence: all taxi taken or from the hotel or at the stand from to the airport and back will apply the fixed rate of Euro 20,00 plus 1 euro per piece of luggage there is an overcharge for sundays and holidays of 2 euro and 3 euro overcharge for night ride. You had a bad experience and thanks to your mail we have investigated and we will sort out which of the 2 taxi companies this taxi driver comes from and you will be able to claim.
I hope what had happened didn't effect the good memory you keep of the city of Florence and of your sojourn at the David!
My best,
Gabriele Cecioni

I booked the Hotel David for four nights last fall after reading all the glowing TripAdvisor reviews, and they were spot on! The David is located outside of Florence's historic center; it's about a 20-minute walk or a short bus ride away. The Hotel David is in a residential neighborhood flanked by small cafes, shops, and lots of green space; it's also right on the bus route to the Piazzale Michelango and San Miniato, and the staff sells bus tickets right at the front desk, so it's a win-win situation. They also hand out maps and are happy to point out destinations, but be careful: we discovered that several of the bus stops had been changed from those shown on the map, which resulted in several frustrated hours walking in circles looking for the right bus stop back to the hotel (like many areas in Italy, the historic center is off-limits to traffic.) The bus stops are conveniently located across the street, and you can also purchase multi-day bus passes at the front desk or the nearby tobacco shop.

We'd requested a room with a balcony and had originally wanted a bathtub, but the bathroom had recently been renovated and had the most luxurious showerhead that I've ever had the pleasure of using! The balcony was spacious, and we would pick up goodies at the deli across the street and have picnics on the balcony in the evenings. The Hotel David also has a wine and cheese reception every evening in the garden, with a good variety of nibbles that change each night. It's a great way to meet your fellow travelers. Note that if you happen to arrive in Florence on a Sunday, stores and restaurants will be closed away from the historic center (we found this out the hard way and were extra grateful for the free nibbles!!).

The included freebies are amazing: Free WiFi, a stocked minibar that includes drinks and snacks, free phone calls, and more. There are laundry facilities on-site, and a lounge with a selection of English books (and board games, if I remember correctly). The included breakfast was more than sufficient; the ladies will make cappuccinos if you ask (they also provide hot water for tea and brewed espresso). There was a nice selection of yogurts (including hazelnut!), pastries, cold cuts, and cereals that kept me going for most of the day.

The only negative was not the hotel's fault, but we booked a *very* early morning taxi ride to the train station through the hotel and felt that we were scalped with all the "added fees" (it ended up costing something like 70 Euro for a 20-minute taxi ride). Overall, this is a charming, comfortable hotel with a lot of ambiance that will make your stay in Florence a memorable one!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony!
