“Nice hotel close to the heart of Florence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

We chose this hotel because it is close to the heart of Florence and it was a bit cheaper than the other hotels (not that any hotel in Florence is really cheap). The receptionist was extremely helpful and even offerend us breakfast when we arrived at 10.00 am on the first day. Our room was nice and we had view of the rooftops of Florence. All in all, I would very much recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Try to find a room not facing the main street.

We stayed for three nights. The temperature was 30-35C in florence..........

pros:
location!
near central train station
Near bus italia station.
Grocery store downstairs is open till late.
Has elevator
Buffet breakfast provided
The front doors are locked after midnight
Bathroom works

cons:
aircond blows hot air.
This is totally inacceptable.
We booked because the hotel features an aircond.
On the second night the ac broke down
coffee (both instant and brewed) served during breakfast is bad

recommendation:
go stay elsewhere as there plenty of better hotels nearby

I'm not sure why some Italy hotels aren't better? If would be so easy...a coat of paint, a new matress, maybe rip up the dirty old carpet,...
But as European hotels go this one is not too bad. The location is great. Just 5 minutes from the train station and information centre. Many of the local tours leave from the train station so it's helpful to be close by. We walked everywhere in Florence...nothing is more than a 15-20 walk.
There are some great restaurants (literally) right next store. The Garden which is more traditional Tuscan food and La Grotta di Leo which has great pizza and pasta and the prices are great...check my review for both.
Anyway...could Hotel Byron better? Of course! But it is clean, in a great location, and a good price.

Very clise ro bus station and S. Maria Novella train Station. Walking minutes from main places such as Piazza S. Maria Novella, Piazza della Republica, Castello Vecchio etc. Price is same of other 3 star hotels anywhere in Italy.

I just returned from a four night trip to Florence with a group of 16 students. My school booked this hotel and I was nervous after reading the comments on Trip Advisor. Here are the pros: the staff is very kind, but not always helpful. They did not always respond to issues about the rooms, but they were helpful in all other ways. The rooms were clean, but small. If you are above average weight, you may have difficulties fitting into the shower. The AC was fine and the rooms were surprisingly quiet. There is a lift. Overall, the hotel was absolutely fine. For the money, the location is very good, with some simple restaurants right next door. The one warning I will give is that this month has been horrible for mosquitos. I wished I had a mosquito net with me. The desk did provide me with a coil, but it was only partially effective. So, don't write off this hotel. If you are on a limited budget, this hotel is fine if you want to stay close to the center. If you are looking for luxury, look somewhere else. They don't pretend to be a luxury hotel.

This old hotel is delightful with so much charm and care taken to make you feel so at home. Wonderful position just around the corner from the rail station and the Duomo close by as well. Staff just couldn't be more helpful. Breakfast was delicious and food safety was at its best.
Would be delighted to recommend this hotel at such a great price.

I stayed here durring an EF study tours trip and i have mixed feelings about this hotel pros: great location and the rooms are very spacious with decent breakfast in the morning not to mention the night manager was kind enough to hold on to our valuables and room keys when we went out for the night. Cons: the tv in my room did not work there was no shampoo or conditioner in the bathroom, the room keys were these heavy clunky things, the beds were stiff and sqeaky, and the elevator was barely big enough for one person! this hotel was very similar to one from a Stephen king novel.
