“Excelent Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013 via mobile

I stayed there for 2 nights in May. The location of the hotel is just perfect. They gave me a room with a river view. It was a pleasent view to enjoy specially at night.

The staff are very helpful and made my stay even better with all the assistance they provided.

With a little work on room design and furniture, this hotel can easily be a 5 star hotel.

We had a lovely room with a balcony but the bathroom was extremely small. It was so small that you were unable to use the facilities and open the door. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Would definitely return.

Perfect location overlooking the river very close to all the main attractions. The rooms were large and the bathroom even had a door overlooking the square at the back of the hotel . Breakfast was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful . Would highly recommend a stay here.

Room Tip: Ask for room overlooking the river .

4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights from 5th May 2013. I chose it because of the good reviews on trip advisor and was not disappointed overall. We had a spacious room, the breakfast was good and plentiful - I can't think what could be added to make it better and they make the best tea I've ever had abroad. Everywhere was spotlessly and I mean spotlessly clean! I wish I could have given them 5 out of 5 but one thing let them down -- the attitude of some of the staff. The majority of the staff were very helpful and friendly but unfortunately one or two were not. One of the male receptionists and the barman who was on duty for the 1st 2 nights of our stay made it quite clear they did not wish to engage in conversation. They had their heads in paperwork and seemed annoyed to have been disturbed; neither made any attempt to engage with us. "Afternoon chocolate/tea and homemade cookies and cakes" were advertised as being served on the roof garden between 4pm and 6pm daily. We asked at reception about this this one afternoon and were told to ask the barman. He was not there. We went up to the roof but there was no one there either. My husband went down to the bar again but still none was there. My husband went back to reception who told him to go to the bar so my husband said that he had been twice but there was no one on duty. After quite a long wait a very taciturn barman/waiter came up to take our order. He served it eventually but the advertised cookies and cakes turned out to be a slice of dry jam tart, a slice of cheesecake and a slice of apple pie on one plate and 1 whole piece of cheesecake, 1 broken piece of cheesecake and 1 piece of jam tart in a heap on the other. No thought had been given to giving us a choice (my husband does not like cheesecake) or presentation at all and we were very disappointed not to be trying the delicious cakes and pastries seen in other establishments in Florence. Our opinion was that they had no cookies or cakes for some reason and had hashed up some of the previous night's deserts; or that the barman was grumpy at being disturbed from whatever it was he had been doing. He did not speak to us at all or return to ask if everything was alright. On our last night a different barman was on duty and he was exactly the opposite. This did not detract from our enjoyment of our holiday and we would still highly recommend it, but for a hotel of such high standards (and it's not cheap) one would not expect this and it has let the hotel and the rest of the staff down somewhat.
One other thing to mention is that we booked an airport transfer form Pisa through Airport Transfers. Booking was very easy and they were very efficient. They sent a driver from "Tuscany Travellers" to meet us and we cannot praise this company highly enough. The limo was spotless and the driver was punctual and professional. For a few extra euros he gave us a quick stopover at the leaning Tower of Pisa, he gave us lots of information about places we passed through en route to Florence and about where to go and what to see etc. We learnt that Tuscany Travellers do many different types of half day or full day excursions into the Tuscany countryside, wine tasting and/or to visit other towns and cities eg Sienna and Lucca. If we ever return to Tuscany we shall be sure to contact them.

Dear Sirs t100osh,
we wish to thank you for the review.
Following our correspondence we apologize for the unusual attitude of the Barman that was on duty may 5th and 6th. He was concentrating on an important duty he had been given and he apparently forgot for a while our mission: "Client always comes first!". The Barman is always available but sometimes he has to reach the main kitchen on the 2nd floor to restock the bar fridge or to deliver orders to clients in their rooms. This normally takes few minutes but your comment teaches us that he should always be on call therefore the solutions was easy as we assigend him a mobile phone. Our cookies and cakes are freshly made by a local high quality confectionery. We apply strictly Haccp procedures to have them served correctly therefore a dry jam tart should not have been and will not be offered in the future.
We have been pleased to learn however, that the problems did not spoil your holiday therefore we look forward to your next visit.
Accept our best regards.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

This hotel was rated 4.5 stars by TA, but fell short of our expectations. The rooms are very small and sparsely equipped. The room was not available at the advertised check-in time which is just not acceptable for a hotel of this expense. No tea or coffee facilities in the room and an antiquated safe made for a below-average impression. The breakfast was very average - for this price you'll find better in Florence. Location-wise it can't be beaten but we felt that they trade on this and have not focused on the small things that would be worth the TA grading.

Dear Mr. Lawrence G.,
we wish to thank you for your review.
Most Florence hotels located in the historical center have been built in ancient buildings therefore rooms are all different in size. Room booked was “standard double”. Your room is 16 sqm., has a wide window overlooking the charming Piazza del Limbo, brand new tiled bathroom (like all our bathrooms). Our hotel also offers deluxe river view rooms that are a lot wider, junior suites and suites. We have plenty staff on duty in order to make rooms ready latest by 2 pm but sometimes clients request late check out or check out at 12 altogether so some rooms can occasionally be ready by 2,30/3,00 pm. We have no tea or coffee facility for fire safety. The use of the safety box is free of charge and at check in time we offer to all clients the safe key. Our breakfast is composed of: Fruit salad, prunes, corn flakes, rice krispies, muesli, all bran, 3 different types of baked croissant, 3 different types of bread rolls, duchesse, flat bread, packed rye bread, brown bread, wholemeal bread, zwieback, 10 different types of yoghurt, 6 different types of jam , honey . 3 differet types of cheeses, ham, salami, sausages, bacon, wustel, scrambled eggs, butter, and fresh fruit in season. Orange juice, pinapple juice, grapefruit juice, tomato juice and all hot drinks (coffee, tea, etc .) Pancakes with maple syrup.
Accept our best regards.

We decided on this hotel because of its location and the very good Tripadvisor reports - and it was spot on in every respect. The hotel has all the amenities of a modern hotel, but with all the wonderful character of Italy. The location is perfect - on a quiet road bordering the Arno River, and our delightful room overlooked the Ponte Vecchio. The staff are all very friendly and professional, and the reception staff will happily organise the museum reservations which eliminate the need for those long queues. Everywhere was superbly clean and beautifully furnished, and breakfast was excellent. The location is very central, and all major sites are within easy walking distance - when the feet are tired it was so nice to be able to pop back into the hotel for a short break before enjoying more of beautiful Florence. We were also pleasantly surprised to find the bar snacks and drinks were very reasonably priced compared to local cafes and restaurants. The Berchielli is a lovely hotel and well deserves its excellent reviews.

Room Tip: Views of the River Arno and the Ponte Vecchio are stunning

We stayed in this hotel for three nights and it was terrific. Our room overlooked the Arno river.. the view was stupendous. The room was spacious, the bathroom and shower were huge by Italian standards, and the breakfast room was lovely. There were a lof of choices, the service was excellent. The location of the hotel was perfect, it was on a quiet street but only 2 minute walk to a busy street. Everything was easily accessible by walking. We would recommend this hotel highly.

Room Tip: overlooking the river is gorgeous, we were on a high floor so not much street noise
