“A nice cozy place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 weeks ago

This hotel used to be a convent.
The hotel conversion turned out great.
Rooms with solid walls help for sound isolation.
Nice american brekfast.
It definitely desrves its 4 stars, although one knows Best Western is more at 3-star level.

The hotel is an old monastery and is located at the base of a large hill. It is somewhat east and north from the center of town. It is not walking distance to the Duomo or Ufizzi. The rooms are large and very clean. There is a breakfast area down stairs and the food is typical of most breakfasts with lots of bread, rolls, meats, yogurt etc. There is a bar to get a glass of wine/ beer or hard drink from at night. There are several restaurants located near the hotel if one wants other fare. We liked the hotel and found the staff to be very friendly and responsive.

Room Tip: Get a room with a bathtub... Otherwise you will be stuck with a tiny shower

The Hotel Villa Gabriele is in a suburb of Florence. It is a converted 19th century monastery. A little bit austere but it has all the required comforts. The rooms are light and airy with air-con, tiled floors, modern en-suites and firm beds. As in so many hotels the corridors can be noisy at various times of the day. There is a small, solar heated pool, at the rear of the hotel with attentive mosquitos. Breakfasts offer a good choice of different foods. The evening meal was fine but unexceptional. The restaurant area is too small for the size of hotel. It can be a bit of a squeeze if too many people come to breakfast or dinner at the same time.

Nice hotel, clean big rooms BUT there is no restaurant you get breakfast, that's it and IF there is a place near to eat they open late or not at all, especially Sunday. Staff are friendly and try to help but I wouldn't stay again in a hurry due to location being bit far out and no where to eat. Most places will close not long after lunch. Wi fi bit slow at times.

We found the hotel very clean and most of the staff are very nice (the bearded late night barman should smile a bit).
The fact that there is no restaurant let the hotel down a bit, it is not quite a 4 star. The bed was a king size but really quite hard.
The breakfast was normal Italian fare and plenty of it.

We arrived quite late and was directed to a local pizzeria\restaurant, my wife and I have lived in Naples and we loved being part of the locale economy. This lovely little family run pizzeria took us back to our stay in Naples. They were very welcoming and the food was excellent along with the good wine and beer. We have seen a previous negative comment for this little place but we can state categorically it is a gem.
Although not central a quick (cheap) bus ride takes you to where you need to be quickly.

Watch out for the long lines for the Uffizi and to see MA's David but we would say go late to se David as many of the groups dont go in after 16:30.

The dual aspect room we were allocated was, we think, able to be a family room as well. Lovely clean, bright, spacious and airy. The bed we found rather hard!
Reasonable breakfasts. The big plus for me was the swimming pool - sun warmed!!! but fortunately we were there when it was hot!
Staff very helpful.
Don't book there if you think you will be able to walk into the centre of Florence because you won't! Nowhere much to stroll at night, if you like a walk before bed.

Room Tip: Didn't hear any bad comments from our group about the rooms so presume all as good as ours. The...

This place is great if you like the beauty and quiteness of Florence. The rooms are nice and clean and the small garden with pool is cozy. I could wish for a more international breakfast with real juice, but the rest covers that lack.
