“Family weekend in Florence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2014

We are a family of four, I am English and my wife and teenage son/daughter are Italian. We stayed in one of the family "rooms" - very nice, with the sleeping areas divided on two floor levels in an open space kind of apartment within the Hotel structure. All perfect, large bathroom, all very clean, great service and nicely furnished. Nothing is missing.
The Hotel is located perfectly in the center, no noise, 7 minute walk to the Duomo and perfected for exploring the historic center.
We stayed for two nights and on the first night there was a welcome apertif and light buffet early evening t the Hotel bar.
Staff all very helpfull and if you want to eat good Tuscan food at the right the price ask them for recommendations. We would highly recommend the restaurant Enzo e Piero - Via Faenza see http://www.trattoriaenzoepiero.it/ - it was a fantastic evening both for th food and very friendly atmosphere. Also we ate at eh Birrifico Mostodolce in Via Bartolomeo for a mid-day lunch where you can enjoy a range of very nice craft beers.
We would recommend you follow in our footsteps!!

Room Tip: Room teo for families - don't miss it!!

I choose this hotel based on the positive reviews I read and was not disappointed. The location is easy and convenient, the decor is thematic and clean, the breakfast service was the best I had in all of Italy and the service helpful.

We arrived in the evening and the location was close enough to the train station and airport shuttle drop off, but not too close. Our room was clean and comfortable. Nothing fancy, but a good basic room with large windows that open up onto the street. On the desk was a bag of complimentary biscotti and a tea kettle. I had some tea in my travel bag and this was a great late night treat.

There are numerous restaurants in easy walking distance, several nice morning cafes and a little convenience store across the street. We often slept with the window slightly open, there was a little street noise, but nothing that bad.

The staff was very nice and the breakfast buffet was delicious.

The only issue we had was with the iron, or a lack there of. We were able to get an iron from the front desk, but no ironing board. When I had the iron plugged in, it blew a fuse and everything in our room when out. Oh well, I was on vacation in Florence, so what if I had a few wrinkles.

We stayed at the Alba Palace in April 2014. The location is excellent, 2 mins walk from the station and close to plenty of restaurants. I'd booked based on the superb reviews on here but I was left a bit disappointed as the hotel seemed pretty average. Looking at the photos I think some of the rooms are much nicer than others.

We had a room on the 3rd floor facing onto a street which was quite noisy, but with the double windows closed it was quiet - the weather wasn't too hot so we didn't mind much. The room was a small although the bathroom was a nice size. The mattress was quite firm, but this might not bother some people.

Breakfast was average, standard selection but the pastries were dry and didn't seem particularly fresh.

A nice touch was the happy hour in the evening when you could relax with a complimentary drink and snack at the bar.

Room Tip: I think the rooms at the back are much nicer

I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by the Alba Palace Hotel.  The hotel itself is in the "hotel district" in Florence, about 3 minutes walk from the main station (also the drop off point for the bus from Pisa Airport), and although the road appears busy, it's a relative haven of calm inside.

In the communal areas, floors are generally marble or terracotta stone, and the entire hotel appears to have been recently (April 2014) renovated.  All areas, in the hotel, including our room were spotlessly clean, and the staff greeted us every morning and evening with a cheery smile and a "Bon Giorno".

Our room (a triple overlooking the courtyard) was very large, easily accommodating three single beds set up as a 2 + 1.   Walls were clearly recently painted, and new hardwood/laminate flooring in place.   The bathroom was spotlessly clean, (if a little small), and the shower gave a real blast of hot water in the morning - just what you need to set you up for the day.

Only oddity was the room included a welcome mini-bar, and strangely a kettle but no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. I'm convinced the staff will happily provide these on request - we just didn't ask ourselves - too busy.

Breakfast was included in the price, plentiful and varied, served in the converted courtyard which has a permanent glass and steel roof.   All served as a buffet style, with a small Italian woman busy replenishing the stock of Bacon, Eggs (and peas!), three types of cereal, toast, cheese and ham (for the Dutch and German visitors), plus a variety of pastries.  There was an endless supply of fruit-juices including Orange, Apple and a wonderful tasting bright Orange liquid I never quite managed to place.

In the evenings (very gratefully accepted on the first evening after a long day travelling), there was a "happy hour" free drink including beer, wine or sparkling stuff, all served in the spacious lounge area fitted out with red leather chesterfield sofas or some tastefully patterned sofas.

All in - I couldn't fault the hotel at all. Can't remember how much I paid, but either way it was a lovely place to stay.

Couple of final points, it's located very centrally, and most of the main museums and squares are within 10-15 minute walk. We typically came back to the room at about 6pm for a rest before going out for dinner. I'd highly recommend the XXXXX restaurant which is on XXXXX about two minutes walk from the hotel - check out the review - also on Trip Advisor.

Florence is FULL of musueums, and my personal favourite is the "Academia" which has Michaelangelo's "David". From the context of bloke who grew up in "Darkest Liverpool" - I was surprised at how moved I was by this stunning example of Renaissance sculpture. Do book and print tickets beforehand or you'll waste about 1-2 hours queueing up outside each museum. Coming from the UK and our free museums it's a shock to have to pay - but you've no choice - so you're better off booking a time. I'd recommend at most 1-3 museums per day, and plan to spend 1-2 hours in each.

Finally - a priceless tip. Do a search under attractions for "Piazzale Michelangelo" - I've written a review which includes a beautiful walk through a stunning rose garden overlooking Florence, and a great way to spend a romantic (or family) picnic lunch while looking out over the city.

Have a good trip and take my love with you to Firenze.

Was deliberating between Alba and a more classicly plush centrally located hotel for our short trip. Previous reviews on quad rooms and quaint look from photos sold this to us. Definite good decision. Room was fabulous and perfect for family of 4. Huge ( especially for Italy), super comfy, fab bathing with double shower room + wonderfully styled separate jacuzzi bathroom. Kids loved it and super soothing after treading the pavements day and night! Easy walking to everywhere. Staff very polite and helpful and lovely added touches of complimentary eve drink and snacks, guide books and maps. Breakfast room and food choices very pleasant. Mozzies attacked at night but our fault for not using mozzie plugs and tabs supplied in room!

Room Tip: Quad room with jacuzzi just fab for family of 4. Room 003.

There was nothing to complain about here - a lovely experience. We had a double room (203), which was clean and pleasant; the bed was very comfortable, while the shower was hot and powerful, which is often not the case in hotels. The room looked out over the street, which we thought might be noisy but this wasn't the case. There were some very early roadworks on the Tuesday morning but that's not the hotel's fault! There are wood floors to the rooms, which might be a problem with people above but we didn't have any noise.
Staff were really helpful - especially the lady on the reception desk Sunday evening - Jasmina?? - and the lady who did the breakfast. There was a good choice for breakfast, hot, cold, variety of breads and the coffee was good, with hot milk available for ir. The waitress was happy to get different types of coffee if asked.
The reception and bar area were welcoming and comfortable.
As has been said before, the hotel is close to the main station and the town, while being situated in a reasonable street, where it's not a problem to go out in the evening. Bars and restaurants locally too.
