This hotel was part of a package with Gate 1 travel (online travel company) that we used to book our Italy vacation. We had choice of two hotels in our price level and this was the one I picked based on the reviews.
We stayed here 3 nights and I have to say this was our favorite hotel in our favorite Italy city of the ones we visited.
As far as location it was the best out of the three hotels we stayed in as well. It was about a 10-15 min walk from the train station, about 5-7 mins to the Fine Arts (to see David), and about 10-15 mins to the Duomo area. There wasn't much directly around the hotel but pretty much everything was a short walk.
The hotel is a boutique hotel with lots of art and nice features throughout. The best couple of features being the honor bar (help yourself and write down what you need to pay for) and the rooftop garden. We used the honor bar once but there is a small store across the street and a liquor store about a block away where you can get drinks pretty easily and a little cheaper. The rooftop garden has a great view with views of the Duomo with some nice places to sit.
Our room was good size compared to the other two rooms we had in the other cities but our friends' room was really small. It was nicely updated, however, even though it looked newer it had some pretty worn areas. It was on the first floor (which is 2nd floor to the US) so it was nice not to have to use the elevator each time.
What we liked about our room:
- We were on a small courtyard so it was extremely quiet
- large bathroom, it had 2 sinks and a large walk-in shower
- Queen size equivalent bed and slightly more comfortable than the other 2 hotel bed we stayed in
-Small fridge to keep water/drinks cold
What we didn't like:
-The room had about 6-7 lights and they were all on or all off. There was no option just to turn one or two lights on.
-We liked to have the window open instead of using the air conditioner however since the windows had no screens we had at least one mosquito in the room each night. I had several bites and the proof was the blood splat when I finally was able to kill them.
-Could not find a way to turn on the air conditioner. We should of asked but took our chances with the mosquitos. If we were there one more night I would have definitely asked.
-'rain shower' shower head. The idea was nice but I think there was more water pressure the night it rained outside. It would have been great if there was an additional shower head that had some pressure. I think there was one at one point too since there was a place to hang one but it was missing.
The included breakfast here was by far the best out of the three hotels we stayed at in Italy. It was a very nice dinning area and items offered for breakfast changed slightly each day. The best thing is they had scrambled eggs that were actually warm (unlike the hotel in Rome) and potatoes. They had the usual offerings of pastries, yogurt, meats, boiled eggs, etc. They had a delicious pie type thing that was similar to bread pudding in flavor. The brought us cappuccinos upon request each morning as well.
So overall this was our favorite Italy hotel we stayed in even with the few room issues and of the places we stayed this would probably be the only one I would definitely recommend.
