“Old World Charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

We stayed here during spring break. The hotel has a gratious and civilized quality about it that is in perfect step with the City of Florence. Location is perfect and all major sites are within walking distance. Breakfast is very good and the cappicino has a surprise that made my daughter smile! We rented a quad room for my wife and I plus our two daughters and were pleasantly rewarded with a two story converted loft apartment that was both elegant and very roomy. There was a king size bed and full bath on each floor along with an internal staircase and stained glass windows. It's room 216 and it is beautiful. The bar is a great place for that final drink before bed and while the prices were a little high, the pours were generous, so overall it was a good value. The bartender is very interesting and pleasant if you engage him in conversation and he can give you a great history of the hotel. This hotel captures the beauty and grace of classic Florence.

I really liked this hotel. It's more of a tourist hotel to be sure, but is elegant and well-appointed. The beds were very comfortable and the quality of the bed linen and towelling was good too.

The hotel is very well located, close to the railway station but also a short walk from the major attractions. I could not have been happier with the location.

The staff were generally very polite and friendly, obligingly booking restaurants and tours.

The breakfast was solid without being a worldbeater. Scrambled eggs, sausages (bizarrely cut into pieces), yoghurt, fresh and stewed fruits, some pastries and freshly brewed coffee. I noticed that the breakfast room worked very well when the older man was there; when others were there, much less so. The older man was a gentleman and made little faces in people's coffees -- very thoughtful!

The one source of disappointment I had was the hotel's recommendations of tours: they were mass-produced tourist rubbish. We booked two -- the first was so bad that I cancelled the second. In the end, I sourced one myself recommended here on Tripadvisor called Tuscan Wine Tour and it was much, much better than those recommended by the hotel.

Another tip for hotel: there is no wifi to the rooms so guests congregate in the foyer. It's inconvenient.

Overall,I thought that this was a really solid hotel and I would return without hesitation. If they fixed the wifi and became a little more discerning on their choice of tour companies, it would be excellent.

We have just returned from a four day break in Florence staying in the Michelangelo suite. The room was excellent , plenty of space , lovely comfortable sofa and easy chairs, huge bed and large bathroom. Breakfast was varied and plentiful with both cold and hot options and service was excellent. Delicious and filling free snacks are provided in the bar with drinks between 6 and 7 pm. All the major attractions Uffizi, Basilica etc were close by as were a large variety of restaurants and bars. The bus and railway stations are also a 10 minute walk away.
Bearing this in mind why have I only given it 4 stars? Here's why!
A tea and coffee tray would be most welcome especially in a suite!
Reception staff on the whole were very helpful and courteous but this was not always the case and the check out receptionist did not inform us of the total bill until my credit card had been processed and spent the whole time chatting to amother member of staff. A minor quibble, I know, but one that does show that not all staff are dedicated to customer service.

Room Tip: Michelangelo suite an excellent option.

We stayed here for 5 nights in a junior suite and it was wonderful! The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was great. The cappuccino at breakfast even had a little picture on the foam every morning! Lots of fruit and choices available. I got very sick while we were there and the staff was quite helpful making my stay even better. We had to stay an extra night and they were very accommodating. Using the wi fi in the lobby was fine. Great location to the central city and the train station.

Room Tip: The junior suite sleeps 3 and had two bathrooms which was perfect for us. They also have single per...

Had a delightful 8 day stay. Everything excellent, except the 2 computers provided in the lobby; far too slow and difficult to connect at times. James, in charge of the excellent buffet breakfast, does a marvelous job and makes the BEST cappuccino !

We stayed at Hotel de la Ville in December after reading about reviews online.
The location is great and the breakfast is good and offers a lot of choices.

However, we were quite disappointed with the customer service and the room amenities.
The bathrooms had doors and hangers breaking all the time and they wouldn't fix anything.
We were also told that we would be charged extra for fixing the bathroom even though the room was initially presented to us that way. What a shock!

For the same price, there are other better options for hotels in the area. We won't be coming back.

We stayed here for a couple of nights last December. We had a fantastic time. The rooms are beautiful , clean and very romantic in a very convenient location . Every day we woke up to a delicious buffet breakfast , the staff at the hotel were very helpful and we actually got upgraded to a nicer room which was great,
Great service and fantastic rooms!
