You can't miss the Duomo in Florence. You see the Dome from all parts of the city so need to get a close up view of the church as well. Entrance to the Duomo is free and photos are allowed inside. The church is extremely unique. Not only because of Bruneschelli's masterpiece of a dome, but also the outside which looks like an explosion of peppermint candy canes. You just don't see that color combination on many churches!
If you have the time, I'd also suggest climbing either the Campanile or the dome for some great views of Florence. I climbed the dome. 6 euros. Can be a tight fit in places where it's single file and a circular stairway. (Not for those who don't like tight spaces or have health conditions.) Can also be a bit of a traffic jam because part of the stairway is used for both going up and going down. At the half way point up or down, you will go into the dome for views of the interior of the Duomo. I believe it was 467 stairs up to the top of the Dome and 417 stairs to the top of the Campanile. I didn't climb the Campanile but the perk there would be the excellent close-up views of the dome. The perk of the Dome is that you have 360 degree views and views of the Campanile. Great views of Florence and Tuscany.
Florence must see.
