“Almost Unbelievably Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2015

Absolutely not to be missed.

If you must, spend a few minutes admiring Michelangelo's *David* at the Accademia - and then come over here, just next door, to see some of what one of Michelangelo's greatest predecessors accomplished. Plan to spend at least an hour or two.

“Especially enjoyed the 2nd floor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2015 via mobile

Don't miss the second floor where there are different frescoes in each of the private rooms. It was a very nice museum. There was some English signage - but not for all items.

“More to see than Beato Angelico in the cells - don't miss the Cloisters”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2015

Museo di San Marco has a lot to offer and I don't take back anything that I said in my previous review about the highlight of the tour - the Last Supper by Ghirlandiao - being missed as people hurry through the bookshop. That said there are other paintings by Fra Beato Angelico - including an enormous crucifixion with Saints - to be found in the rooms off the Cloisters and if you have time to spare they are well worth seeing - they include various paintings by the little known G.Antonio Sogliani who painted portraits of the Dominican Monks in place of the Disciples in a Last Supper design in the Refectory of the original monastery and the recently restored Deposition from the Cross painted by a Nun Plautilla Nelli - one of the few known female painters of the Renaissance and the only one mentioned by Vasari in his Lives of the Artists.
Well worth the extra walk!

“Pre-renaissance Religious art”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2015

Religious art, monastery cubicles, medieval art, and statuary; museum is amazing. The cubicles each had a different (some similar) fresco of a particular saint or event in biblical history. Just being in a place of such history is an experience.

“Marvellous & quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2015

Beautifull quiet museum far away from the thousands of hords of mass-tourists from all sort of nations. The essence of Christianity in the paintings of il Beato Angelico in the 40 former cells of the Dominican Fathers.
