“This is the sleeper attraction in Florence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2014 NEW

Its one thing to see great artwork on display in a museum. But to see painting by a great master... in my view as powerful as Michaelangelo... in an active setting such as this monastery where they were part of the daily life of the monks, well that was amazing.

The artwork in the cells on the upper floor was beyond description, and for such a small admission price, you really see a beautiful exhibit. We got there at the 815 opening and had the place to ourselves... a refreshing break from the push and shove of the Uffizi.

In my view this was my most enjoyable art stop in Florence. Do not miss!!

“Peaceful and Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2014 NEW

This was one of those treasures that I missed the first time around and am so glad I made a point of getting there this time. The frescoes are stunning, they are soft and well lit, and really a treasure to see.

“A good bargain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2014 NEW

For only 4 euros per person, it's not a bad deal. Made a reservation to allow easier entry to the museum which was helpful. While it wasn't my favorite museum in Florence (there are just so many), it is worth a visit and in a popular part of the city center.

“Beato-tiful!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2014

Located just past the Accademia, this gem of a museum is a wonderful intro to monastic life and to Beato Angelico. The operative word here is serene. This Dominican convent was consecrated in 1443 and it retains that otherworldly splendor. The frescoed interior is an inspiration, both bright and meaningful. The upper level cells, simplistic yet focused, are as good as a retreat, and Savonarola's cell is enlightening. The Last Supper fresco is finely detailed and if you also plan to see Da Vinci's, it is a great comparison. All in all, a great hour away from the maddening crowds of Florence's other top attractions.

“Another little Florentine gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2014

Slightly out of the central area this is another place dripping with history. Perhaps ideal for a slightly shorter visit than some of the main attractions but well worth making the effort to see, More important works of art and some interesting history of the early renaissance.
