“The second Last Supper in Florence by Domenico Ghirlandaio”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

We visited the Museo San Marco because of the fresco (the last supper) by Ghirlandaio, unfortunately taking pictures are prohibited. Works of Ghirlandaio, Fra angelico, Ghiberti and Sogliani were abolutely amazing and interesting. At the upper level, we saw several rooms/cells for monks with simple, almost same designs and frescoes of crucifixion. On a huge separate hall, century old large illuminated manuscripts, missal hymn books are on displayed. Friendly staffs specially at the upper level, Signore Marco explained everything.

Buses from Santa Maria Novella station to Piazza San Marco are 01,06,11,14,17 and 23(viseversa)

Higly recommended!

“Arrive early”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

By arriving here early we were able to experience the tranquility of the place before it was inundated with noisy tourists. There is some good religious art on display downstairs, along with some frescoes, but the highlight is the upstairs tour of the monks' cells, each with its own small wall decoration. Numbers allowed upstairs are limited, so you should always be able to experience the calm of the contemplative life.

“Tour of priests rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

I was expecting a museum and what I got was a tour of rooms (cells) in which priests lived. Each room was almost same in size with a fresco usually picturing Jusus on the cross. This was the entire upstairs. Downstairs a few interesting rooms showing more frescos and some manuscripts. Took less than 45 minutes to go around, would not miss much if left out of a tight itenary. Church next door worth the visit. Beautiful Ceiling

“Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

Very empty when I went (Friday at like 11AM). It closes at 1:30 so you better go there early. The actual church is very impressive and the Museum is good for anyone who likes art. Expect to spend around an hour and a half there. Not much more.

“Very interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

Without giving away the virtues of this place it was surprisingly interesting as it used to have many uses. Take at least an hour to hour and a half to wonder around.
