“Beautiful museum with monks cells decorated by Fra Angelico !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

This convent is peaceful and beautiful. Slightly off the beaten track of the most famous attractions, this is definitely worth the visit though if you stay more than one day in Firenze. Fra Angelico painted many of the cells of the monks. There are also several gorgeous paintings and frescas from the Renaissance. Go there !

“Make an effort to go to this Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

The Room with all the Fra Angelico's is one of the 'must sees' in Florence. And it is not too full of people - book online in advance

“Special visit for us...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

My husband is a painter and specialist in art history. My interests are in how people live, wherever and whenever. So this was a wonderful visit for us. We were here the first time forty years ago and I still remember visiting Savonarola's cell then (1973). To be there again today, to stop in each doorway of the monks' dormitory and try to imagine the lives lived was very special for me.

Fra Angelico was busy. He painted a scene from the life of Christ in each monk's cell. How many individuals committed to a life of prayer and meditation have a brilliant fresco on their wall?

We loved the cloister, the dorm, the 'hospice' and our entire visit. We fail to understand why no photographs were allowed, even in the outdoor cloister. And there was a distinct feeling that visitors were an inconvenience. Was it worth visiting? Absolutely.

“A must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

this often overlooked museum, and probably the cheapest admission price in all of Florence, is an old covent with some of the most beautiful frescos including once of Mary and Gabrielle that is exquisite and a Medici room that is quite interesting. Check the hours though because it closes early during the week and has odd weekend hours.

“Beautiful Gem of a Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

Apart from the lady in the ticket office who quite clearly was not happy in her job the Museo di San Marco was incredible. Particularly loved the beautiful courtyard that stands central to the building, and the monks' cells that lie upstairs.
