“Don't miss Fra Angelico's finest work”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

We managed to shoe-horn in the Museo di San Marco on our last day in Florence, and we are certainly glad we did. If you are a fan of the incredible gilded altar pieces and frescoes by the early Renaissance master (and Dominican monk) Fra Angelico, then you must not miss this Museum which is probably the best repository of his work anywhere in the world. It's only open until early afternoon on weekdays (a bit later on Saturdays), so make sure you plan accordingly during your visit to Firenze.

“Amazing Frescoes for art and history lovers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

This church is where the Dominican's lived in the time of the Medici's there are amazing frescoes and the history of the place is very interesting. It is where the first library in Europe was and also where Savanorola lived as a Dominican. I would recommend it to people who love history and art of the Renaissance...

“The Fra Angelicos”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

San Marco is an oasis of quiet in busy Florence. This monastery is an excellent example of what life might have been like for those men who who chose to escape the pressures and stress of Florence. (Never mind the years of Savonarola. . . .) Fra Angelico painted a fresco in each cell, and it is a good lesson to see just how he managed to paint the same theme again and again, each time in a bit different way. The library exhibit is an excellent lesson in medieval and Renaissance calligraphy and illumination. I left with the resolve to read Robert Browning's poetry again.

“An absolute must for the paintings and frescoes of Beato Angelico”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

If you want to see some of the most beautiful and impressive paintings and frescoes by Fra Angelico, this is where you have to go. His Annonciation is one of the most sublime work of art of the 15th century.

“San Marco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

A bit reminiscent of boarding school although the monks had larger cubicles and better pictures! We loved the sense of peace about the monastery, the relative simplicity and the wonderful colours in all the Fra Angelico frescoes.
