“A jewel of a church - oasis of calm too”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

Favourite church in Tuscany - I love the discreet Pisan ornamentation on the arches of the nave and in the Apse.

“Beautiful Gregorian Chiesa!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

This church has one of the best views in Florence. I've been told that the monks there sing Gregorian chant in the evening but I haven't had the opportunity to hear it yet. The inside of the church is beautiful and full of the rich history of the two men who designed and built the church. Definitely worth the extra hike up past the Piazzale Michelangelo after some gelato!

“A gorgeous Romanesque church on a hill overlooking Florence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

If you like Romanesque churches, San Miniato is a must. It hasn't been transformed by the Renaissance, and has lovely original frescoes. When I was there at 2 p.m. several invisible monks sang Gregorian chants for 15 minutes. Such a lovely contrast to the getting and spending down in Florence!
Also, if you want a picture of the roofs of the city or a general view of Florence, San Miniato is a great place to go.

Another tip: on your way up to San Miniato, stop at the Gelateria Vivaldi, which the the first one you'll see after crossing the river and walking into a side street. It has the BEST gelato and at half the price of gelaterias in the city centre.

“Very Spiritual”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

A short uphill walk from Piazzale Michelangelo is this heavenly church. Jasmine vines drapped the outer walls of the front courtyard. Inside the monks were chanting their Gregorian chants. It was close to sunset and the sunlight was streaming in the church windows into the inner sanctuary. This was the best part of Florence!

“Bella”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

Not only one of the most beautiful churches in the world, but also a break from the hustle and bustle of Florence's tourism. Be sure to walk around the side and explore the cemetery.
