“Can't say enough about The Savoy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2006

I have never written a review before on this website but felt compelled after our stay at The Savoy. This hotel has it all. Really the best location in Florence, near all of the sites (Duomo, Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio) in the lively and upscale plaza, Piazza del Republica, has beautiful decor, and most importantly the best customer service I have ever experienced from a hotel. My husband and I only stay at the best hotels when we travel, (Il San Pietro, Quisisanna, Villa D'este) but this hotel's customer service blows all the others away. The employees are able to present a very sophisticated ,upscale and friendly attitude without the stuffiness and snobbery which is unneccesary , outdated, and often uncomfortable. Our luggage was lost for 2 days when we arrived and while the airline and airport sadly were rude and unhelpful, The concierges at The Savoy went above and beyond to help us locate it. Mario in particular was tremendous. He even stayed late one night after a full day of work, waiting for a phone call hopefully with info on our luggage's wherabouts. He saw how upset we were and was intent on making our stay in Florence wonderful. One night we got lost walking to a restaurant that he suggested, so he personally walked us to it and arranged for the owner to greet us with champagne. If you are considering either The Savoy or the other 5 star hotels by the Arno as we were ( Excelsior, Medici)...The Savoy is the choice. In fact we met people staying at The Excelsior who said that they will stay at The Savoy next time due to it's preferable location. We also had dinner at the Villa San Michele hotel and were unimpressed compared to The Savoy.

I rarely give 5 star ratings to hotels but this was by far one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at, especially in Europe.

While the room was not extremely big, the view of the square was fantastic. Also, the location is second to none.

Service was impeccable and I highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Florence. It is smack in the city of everything, shopping, culture, restaurants, and prices are reasonable all things considered.

My girlfriend and I did not try the food, so cannot comment on that.

Best hotel in Europe thus far.

Visited for 3 days in March 2006 for our sons 21st birthday, What a great City and an even greater hotel !! We looked on Trip Advisor prior to going and the Savoy was highly recommended, we were not disappointed. Situated in the Plazza Della Republica with great views this is a beautiful hotel with great rooms great restaurants and some of the best trained staff we have ever come across, the service was second to none and the manager should be proud of him/herself. The location is great with all the attractions of Florence within easy walking distance.

Our rooms were at the front directly overlooking the Plzza Della Republica, it was amazing , we could look out and listen to music playing every night, from violins, to salsa, opera and the atmosphere was electric - Cant wait to go back !!!!

This is our first time to Florence and the Savoy's address can't be better. The property is so well located that it feels like staying at the old Plaza New York (during its prime) or the Ritz Paris... i.e., "the" address of a city. The hotel is within 5-10 minutes walking distance to the major sites and for shopaholics it's adjacent to Miu Miu and 3 minutes from most of the boutiques of other major fashion houses. The difference between this hotel and grande dames like the Plaza and Ritz is the Savoy's stylish/contemporary interiors, which is so well designed that we took a hotel viewbook home to refer to when we renovate our own home. Service, like all Rocco Forte properties, is outstanding. Our only complaint is the bed - the sheets are a bit rough and the blanket is not the duvet that can be found in most luxury hotels nowadays. Regardless, this hotel has exceeded our expectations and it's certainly good value. We visited Villa San Michelle for dinner and found it run-down and inconvenient compared to the Savoy.

We spent 5 days at this hotels on our third trip to Florence. The hotels has the best location for sightseeing shopping - one block from the Dumo - although we did enjoy the views of the Arno when we stayed at the Lungarno Hotel the year before. Still, this is a great location.

Details of room well thought out. The airconditioner vent is situated in a way that it doesn't blow on you during the night. We had also stayed at the Hotel du Russie in Rome on this trip of the same hotel group and found the same well thouth out arrangement. Needless to say the airconditioning came in handy as it was very hot that week in Florence.

The hotel restaurant opens up onto the public square. There was the annual Pitti fashion thing going on that week. It was fun watching all the fabo people come and go late at night and hang out in the restaurant bar. Great breakfast served in the open bar restaurant and this too was fun to watch all the "self important" American women all dressed up for their day of power shopping. Never a dull moment. The pressed linen sheets are a trademark of this hotel group. We actually liked them. Danielie the Consergie was awesome and a great help for restaurante reservations. Hard working, well trained and accomodating staff without any attitude. We experience the same thing at the du Russie in Rome. I will look forward to staying at another of this groups properites when the occassion presents itself. Rooms are expensive but I felt I was getting my money's worth. Will stay there again.

June 2006 We have just spent a fantastic three days in Florence. What a great City. We looked on Trip Advisor prior to going and the Savoy was highly recommended, we were not disappointed. We have to mention two members of staff who simply went out of their way to ensure we had a fantastic stay, Rosa the head receptionist and Generva the customer relations manager both of these ladies were brilliant polite helpful and totally dedicated to the hotel. Situated in the Plazza Della Republica with great views this is a beautiful hotel with great rooms great restaurants and some of the best trained staff we have ever come across, the service was second to none and the manager should be proud of him/herself. The location is great with all the attractions of Florence within easy walking distance. Make sure you take the open top bus tour A & B you get to see so much you would'nt on foot.

What a wonderful hotel. Location, service, etc. I can't say enough. The only complaint, the sheets, although nice expensive sheets, were very stiff. I have learned from staying in other hotels in Italy - this is common. The concierge services were the best I have ever seen. Would definitely stay again. Worth the price!!
