“Must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

Several major works that are here must be seen. As is the problem with most places in Florence, it gets extremely crowded so go early.

“Amazing collection in an amazing building!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

One of the less crowded attracted which deserves much more attention for the fortress like home of the head of the Florence judicary who , to avoid local family prejudice had to come from at least 50km away!

Quite the best collection of sculptures.

And the best value lunch in the little square outside.

“Must for sculpture fans”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

The building itself has a great history and interesting courtyard. An excellent selection of ceramics in which you can see where "Tuscan style" came from.

“Michelangelo and much more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

This museum is often overlooked - but if you are able to spend a few days in Florence, do give yourself a treat. This palazzo has the largest collection of Renaissance sculpture in one spot (e.g. Michelangelo's Bacchus, Donatello's David) plus silver and ivory pieces, coins, tapestries, etc. An exquisite and delicate Crucifix (attributed to Michelangelo) took my breath away. The museum itself is a delight, with its 'Romeo and Juliet' inner courtyard. It is the oldest public building in Florence and has served as residence for the chief magistrate, police headquarters and a prison (hence the name). Be prepared to climb several staircases, as usual in Florence.

“Our Favourite Museum!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

There is something for everyone.
This year their "special"was about several restorations one a tapestry with a marvellous video showing the process and a similar edifying video re the restoration of a Madonna andBambino.
I have difficulty describing as there is so much to see..Mercury by Giambolgna, the Pitti tondo by Michaelangelo,Donatello's David, the terracotta s by the DellaRobbias, etc etc
Again we have visited this museum a number of times and always return..
I might say that reception was its usual dismissive nature!
