Wonderful collection in a splendid building that contains, for instance. fabulous bronzes from some Medici villas - the superb bronze birds from the grotto at the Villa Medici di Castello in Rifredi on the outskirts of Florence are here on the first floor, and here too is Bartolomeo Ammannati's bronze of Hercules and Anteus that once crowned Tribolo's fountain in the same garden.
For those interested in needlework, look at the intricatly designed Bargello-work needlepoint on the chairs, the museum has given its name to these patterns that are still worked today. The treasures in the Bargello are too numerous to mention but it is not a large museum, therefore pleasant to visit. Be warned: it closes in the afternoon so go in the morning well before lunch!
