“Michelangelo - the greatest sculptor of all time?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

We took a guided tour of the Accademia Gallery that was being promoted outside for 25 euro - a little group called the 'accord" tours. we did get some good info, but I think that we could have gotten more info by purchasing an audio - guide for 4 euro instead of the tour. The whole of the huge hall in which the David is exhibited, was redesigned around the sculpture when it was moved here in 1873, to show it (or him) off to best advantage. I found it to exceed my expectations. The anatomy is so perfectly brought out of the marble, that it seems you can see the blood in his veins. Luckily there were not too many people in the hall, so we were able to move around quite freely around David to look from all angles. Marvellous, and a definite highlight.

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

The l'Accademia houses this most wonderful of all statues. It is truly breath-takingly beautiful, and you can spend ages just gazing at it from all angles. The sheer size of it (16feet tall I understand) is what first hits you, but the more you examine all the features, the more your jaw drops at the wonder of it.

“Simple.........”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

Must be seen! As simple as that. No trip to Florence is complete without it. Be sure to also visit the copy outside the Uffizzi. Open-air gallery, filled with sculpture in the sunshine.

“The real thing..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

Having seen the copies of this statue outside the Palazzo Vecchio and up on Piazzale Michaelangelo, we wondered if there was going to be anything more to be gained. But the difference was amazing: the marble finish and the specially built location certainly enabled a new appreciation of the emotion of the sculpture and despite the hordes of other tourists, since the statue rises high above mere mortals, it is easily seen from all sides. There is even adequate seating for longer contemplation.

“Wasn't worth the long line”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

We waited in line to see the Statue of David for over an hour, little did we know that you could purchase timed entry tickets for this attraction just down the street! Those smart people went right in! I think in hindsight, because of the long wait in line, the cost, 12 EURO, and the hordes of people, it wasn't worth it. There is an exact replica of the Staue of David in the Florence town square that looked just as good and was free!
