“A must see in Florence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

When in Florence... thsi is something that can;t be missed. But, I must admit, part of the fun was also trying to take a photo without getting caught by the guards. LOL

“Marble mastery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

Exhausted after a busy day of sightseeing and having seen the copy outside the Palazzo Vecchio we nearly passed on seeing the original but decided that while in Florence we HAD to see it. So glad we did, no words can adequately describe what an absolute master of marble Michelangelo was and David is the pinnacle of his masterwork. An absolute must!

“A breathtaking work of art”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

I am not a particular art expert, I consider myself an average person, initiated not more than ordinary people in art history, or what so ever.
But I have to say David is a breathtaking work of art!!! It is so overwelming and inspiring, II composed a poem near it.
Michelangelo's genius cannot be doubted, but David is more than a statue: it has a life on its own! And it's just there, you can touch it, feel, see it! All for you! :)
Loved it, as much as I loved the city that hosts it, Florence, my favourite city in all the wide world!

“Michelangelo's gift was sculpting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

When I first walked into the Accademia, which serves as both a gallery and a school for aspiring artists, I saw the famous statue of David placed strategically at the end of a row of Michelangelo's incomplete sculptures. It looks exactly like the photos available in textbooks and on the internet;however, the mastery represented in the piece can only be appreciated while standing next to it. If you can connect with Bernardo, schedule the tour with his colorful commentary about the statue and the historical signficance of the statue. There is a fee of 6 euros to enter the gallery. Other artwork is housed in the Academia, but our tour only included the examination of "DAVID." The lifelike detail is phenomenal.
