the palzzo vechchio is the town hall of the city.it is a massive romanesque fortress palace n is located in the piazza signoria.the entrance of this palzzo has the statues of hercules n michaelangelos david as well as the fountain of neptune.we dint have time to go inside n take a tour but the outside itself was quite impressive.the adjacent logia with its many sculptures n statues makes it a place for many to hang out.it is a very significant public place in italy and hosts many cultural points n museums.if ure in for history n art n architecture do take a tour inside.but whilst walking around florence u will def come across this one.

“Do a tour to get the best out of it.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2014 NEW

Palazzo vecchio is full of surprises. But if like me you are not very informed on matters of art and architecture go on one of the tours. The guides here are very informative and you will get so much more out of the visit than just wandering around. We did the Secret Passages tour which was great and took us up into the roof space where our guide told us a little about the construction and alterations to the design over the centuries. Fascinating.

“Don't miss the Secret Passages tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2014 NEW

We really enjoyed our two tours of the palace: first the general tour, and then the Secret Passages tour. I recommend doing them in that order, too. It makes the Secret Passages tour more meaningful when you have a general overview of history, personages, dates, etc., in your head. Our tours were given by the museum (not a private tour guide), and we were very pleased with Marco--who just happened to be the guide for both of these tours for us.

“Just amazing”

Well worth a visit just to see the statue of Percius and the Hercules fountain. This collection of statuary was simply quite amazing. Not to be missed if visiting Florence

“Fortress like Town Hall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2014

The Palazzo Vecchio is the town hall of Florence and has been the symbol of local Government. This Fortress like structure now serves mainly as a museum but unfortunately because of time constraint, we did not get a chance to take a tour of the inside - will leave this to the next trip. It overlooks the Piazza della Signoria where Michaelangelo's David stood from the 15 to 18 century before it was moved to the Academia Gallery. In its place stood a replica erected in the 19th century and next to it stood the statute of Hercules and Cacus as well as the Fountain of Neptune. There is also a gallery of statues in the adjacent Loggia dei Lanzi. If you are taking a walking tour of Florence, you will find Ponte Vecchio, Piazza del Duomo and the Uffizi Gallery all close by.
