“Villa with a view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2011

we just spent a long week end at Villa Cora in Florence, it was the most beautiful setting, the pool the garden the gorgeous interiors and a very special spa
Our room had private elevator and a terrace on the roof with a view to kill. We loved loved loved We did not care that the hotel is a bit out of the way from the center town as some people would. They have a shuttle bus and really the taxi ride is not more the 10 min
We had dinner at Pasha which is the in house restaurant and I must say that the menu could improve
We received excellent service and I take this opportunity to thank everyone for making our week end a special one
Paola Cohen

Room Tip: I stayed in 401 had private elevator and a short flight up to a gorgeous terrace

My wife and I took 18 of our closest friends to Florence for the weekend for my birthday and stayed at Villa Cora. As well as staying at the hotel for 2 nights/3 days on Saturday evening we had pre-dinner drinks on their roof terrace with spectacular views over Florence followed by a dinner in one of their private dining rooms. The whole experience was fantastic and i cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the service was excellent and the food was terrific, particularly for the formal dinner. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms lovely and the facilities very good, especially the swimming pool and adjacent bar. If you ever go to Florence this is the place to stay - the quality is very high, the rates are competitive and although it is on the hill near the Boboli Gardens it is only a 15 minute walk into the centre.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main house are generally larger and more ornate and the ones in the house near the pool...

My husband & I recently travelled to Florence, Italy and renewed our Marriage Vows at the Grand Hotel Villa Cora on the 11th September, 2011. The venue was just beautiful, later we enjoyed a 3 course dinner at the restaurant beside the swimming pool. The staff were very gracious and the food of a very high standard. Anita & Andrew Young.

My sisters wedding was held at the Villa Cora on the 14th Sept 2011.
It was the most amazing wedding I have ever been too.
The venue was fantastic and from the beautiful canapes served as we arrived, the fantastic four course dinner and right up to the moment we left having danced to the most amazing two piece band arranged by the hotel you could not fault it. (The main course beef was to die for.) The wedding breakfst room was stunning.
The service was faultless especially Rueben one of the waiters who not only served on all night until the early hours but joined the dancing on the terrace to entertain the party.
Truly a fantastic wedding venue and well done.

NO VIEW/BAD SERVICE by RECEPTION -- I loved much of this hotel and really wanted to give it a 4-5, but struggled with the reality of the awful day 1 service from one employee (who looks a lot like Stanley Tucci).

We had asked by phone, and then email, and re-confirmed, for a room with CITY VIEWS. We got a room with a view of the back. We were jet-lagged and had just flown in. Disappointed as soon as we saw it, but too tired to argue so we unpacked. It kept bothering me so I mentioned it to the staff.

I went to the reception area and then Tucci and another employee spoke at length, kept disappearing into the office, speaking/arguing in Italian, looking through the paper-work-- meanwhile my husband went to the pool and here I was --wasting day 1 --waiting for them. After about 20 minutes, Tucci finally offered another room.

I explained that we had unpacked already and were exhausted, and was disappointed because the review on TA of the views were the main reason we had picked the hotel.

He mocked me and said "Come on, that is the only reason?". He then showed me a room, smaller than the last overlooking street traffic. Too much work to pack and re-pack and not worth it.

He did not offer to help us with the packing. He did not offer any- none- apologies! He did not send us a complimentary drink, or a platter of fruit-- or something! A small gesture of acknowledgement would have gone a -long-way.
No one- not staff or the manager ever acknowledged what happened. To make it worse, for the rest of the 2 days whenever Tucci saw us, he did not even make eye contact or greet us, like everyone else there did. Very rude.

Mistakes happen. But, rudeness should not. The rest of the reception staff were good.

POOL AREA- AMAZING. Gorgeous, large and clean. By the restaurant and bar. Hidden away in the hills and trees, you feel like you are a million miles from the city. Comfy lounge chairs, nice bar and wait staff.

LOCATION- Great, a long walk. I loved it and preferred not staying in the heart of Florence. It is -at least- a 25 min walk downhill to the Ponte Vechio and then another 5-10 to get to most attractions. But, it is a great walk and beautiful. You pass through gardens and an authentic neighborhood. We also walked back most days, uphill. We liked it -others may prefer a taxi.

SHUTTLE- Is not available at all times, you cannot reserve it, and it is 1st come 1st serve. They say it is until 8:30-- but it is not- it depends on what time it left last. Be careful with this and ask a lot of questions.

MAIN BUILDING-- Opulent, antiques, Persian rugs, chandeliers - simply gorgeous -like a palace.

All in all, there are so many nice hotels in Florence, that you should consider staying elsewhere, since the main reasons to come here are the pool and the views- but you may not get the views and may get rudeness for asking.

Room Tip: Insist on a view of Florence, and good luck getting it

We had a great stay at Villa Cora - a most wonderful place as so non-hotel-typical. The original house is very well preserved on the ground floor - all original entertainment space available to explore and enjoy.

Throughout our stay, staff was excellent, very friendly and extremely helpful.

We chose this romantic hotel for our very special ten year anniversary, we had no idea how truly wonderful it would be. Florence is a fabulous city, with very friendly and lovely people! But what was the cherry on top was the hotel villa cora, they gave us a very special room, spacious stylish, and our own elevator entrance. The concierge and front desk team were great, as were the pool and breakfast staff, and the shuttle driver who happily ferried my husband and I up and down, even though the walk was also a leisurely stroll! We loved being just out of the noise and heat of Florence down town, and enjoyed the frescoed mansion and cooling off in the pool added another special dimension to our long weekend away. Grazia milia to all the staff, we really hope to be back before our twentieth anniversary?
