“Noise until 5am/inconvenient check in”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2011

I was initially attracted to the Black 5 Florence Suite for its location and atmosphere/interior design. This is not your typical hotel because you can only check in between 2-6pm. In addition to the minor check in inconvenience, the major issue was the noise. The walls are super thin and we had extremly noisy neighbours who were drunk singing La Bamba until 5:30 in the morning. Under a normal circumstance, we could have gone down to the concierge and asked to switch rooms, but in this case, because no one is at reception, we were stuck and the line of communication as to who to complain to is unclear (unless there is an emergency). Additionally, the condition of the bathroom was run down, water barely draining from the shower.

While the on-premis staff were plesant, we are now a month after our stay and still trying to get a refund. We ended up leaving after the first night instead of staying three, switching to a different hotel and asked for a refund. We'll see where it goes.

We stayed in this Residence 12nov.it is very hard to find the hotel even with a gps!and No one to help you in the entrance and you need to handcarry all your staff one floor up byyourself. İt took us nearly one hour to check in as the resposible staff was unprofessional without any knowledge at all , talking on his mobile with his manager to get online support although we were the only ones waiting to check in! Then in the end we were asked to pay 30 euro extra charge as we have checked in after18.00 . However, our reservation was confirmed although we made it after 18:00 . So very unprofessional service according to the price of the room which was 156 euro with extra charges.besides breakfast starts at8:30 and finishes at 9.30 which means you need to give extra effort to catch it.

Dear Edafuat,
thank you for your interest in Black 5 Florence Suite.
Please note that Black 5 is a Charming Bed and Breakfast in Full of Florence Center, between Duomo and Uffizi Gallery. Just above on Teatro Verdi and just behind the Bargello Musuem the Most important Florence's Museum and it is at 900 meters Walking Distance from Main Station Santa Maria Novella. So it is Very Easy get the right way to come to Black 5. Actually We do not know how you have used your GPS.... Our Guests have never ever had any problem to find Us.

Also You have reserved our Most Beautiful Room " The Junior Suite" that is a 40 square meters Room with whirlpool , Amazing view by the Florence historical center and Lounge Space, Also you have payed 141.00 € and Not 156.00 as you have say. We think that this rate is cheaper compared to other property and compared the Level and Quality of the Room where you have been .

Also , most of other bed and breakfast does not accept Guest later that 8 pm and you have got your check in later than Midnight ! We inform you that you are be able to book your room at any time during the day and the night but your check in should be early than 6 pm.
Waiting For your next stay in Florence

It was own first trip in Florence... What a beautiful place! Incredible! You have to keep opened your eyes all the day!!!
Our friends had warned that the city is beautiful.
So we decided to take a nice room ... and we filled BLACK5! Full service, discreet, gated and especially ideally located in the heart of the city.
However, watch out for evenings of performances in the theater on the ground floor of the residence ... it can be noisy when the band plays rock and roll!

Room Tip: If you are looking for a room decorated in cool design and ideally situated for an acceptable price...

I was generally extremely disappointed with our stay at Black 5 having booked it 6 months before a family trip with my husband and his parents and being under the impression that it was a boutique style accommodation. When we turned up I was mortified to see graffiti on the front door to the building and then when we were buzzed in had to work our way through a security gate, two flights of stone stairs, and a lift to the top floor. My aged inlaws struggled with this and really not easy with lots of heavy luggage. The guy who met us to check in was very nice and polite but it is obvious that this place is generally non staffed once you are given your hefty bunch of keys to get in and out. The rooms themselves were small and basic albeit
with a smattering of 'designer' wallpaper and headboard fabric. The furniture was chipped and basic. The bathrooms were ok although our shower leaked horribly. The worst thing was the noise from the street late on Saturday night which went on from midnight until 4am....avoid room 6 at all costs if you like to go to bed early, we got no sleep whatsoever and I was very worried about the inlaws two rooms down.

I will say that the location is excellent only 5 to 10 mins walk from all sites and plentiful restaurants. But I would say this place is just a fancy youth hostel - don't take your wife there for a romantic getaway!

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on the street facing guiseppe Verdi if you don't like noise!

I do not have many good things to say about this B&B except for the location is decent and it was clean. It was not luxurious or comfortable. It is dark, gloomy, and musty. The lady that checked us in was very nice but we did not likee having to walk in to the residence, up two flights of stairs in the dark while needing 5 sets of keys and a creaky extremely small elevator to get to our room. The location is good but the street was loud and dirty and the noise kept us awake most nights. Our room 6 was very tiny compared to the pictures and the website is nothing like what you get in person, while the decor appears to be modern on the website it does not have the charm of a boutique hotel for what you pay. For an extra towel it was 5 duties per towel and the shower barely had enough water pressure to get the soap out of your hair. My husband and I were celebrating our 1 year anniversary and we felt like we were staying in a hostel type of environment.

We stayed at the Black 5 B&B for 5 nights. We were in their comfort room #10. The rooms and hotel is just beautiful, decent sized, and very clean.

Here are some minor cons:
1 - we were told that we could have water from the fridge for free as much as we wanted during check in. We drank the two bottles provided and during the rest of our stay this was never refilled.
2 - our bathtub leaked and our entire bathroom was wet all the time. Housekeeping knew this since our rugs were soaked and every night when we got back we still only had one tiny rug. This happened bc water would accumulate on the corner while we showered and then leak on the side.
3 - No WIFI. The internet cable we requested on check in would only connect behind the nighstand, so we couldn't use the actual desk for our computer.
4 - very few outlets. There were only two we could use, so we had to unplug one of the lamps in order to plug in our computer.
5 - No phones in the room, or at the reception desk when they're gone.
6 - No set reception hours. We left every morning around 9am and nobody was there. We once left later at 11am and still nobody was there. We came back to our room once around 3pm and nobody was there. We only saw someone sitting at the desk once during our entire stay because she was waiting for someone to check in late. The only other time we saw someone was when we checked in and checked out. This would not be a problem if we had a way to communicate issues with them!!!! But since we had no phones, and no pen and paper they were not attentive to any needs we had.
7 - One morning we woke up late (around 10am) and we both had COLD SHOWERS! they ran out of hot water! But there wasn't anyway to notify anyone since nobody was there.
8- No toiletries are provided. This was fine for us since we pack it, but I know some people rely on the hotels to provide it.
9 - For a B&B breakfast should be included, and not extra cost. We never had breakfast at the hotel because of this.
10 - One flight of stairs before you get to the elevator. If you're a woman alone, this can be a problem.
11 - lady at check out did not speak english.

pros:

1. great location. Florence is pretty compact. we loved staying at santa Croce. it's a haul from the train station though (20 min walk) so if you plan on being in and out of Florence for day trips you might want to stay closer to the train. There is a taxi stand in front of the piazza 1 minute away which will cost you around 8 euros to the train station. It's very close to the uffizi and the duomo, and Ponte vecchio.

2. Get a restaurant list suggestion from the reception desk at check in. They were great recommendations!

3. Quiet. Comfortable.Clean. Spacious. Well Decorated. Safe. AC was great. We really slept really well.

4. Filipo was great at check in. very nice and helpful.

5. They held our bags after check out while we went to santa croce church since our train was later in the day.

Overall we enjoyed our stay. I would be weary of staying again solely because of the reception issues and availability.

We stayed in "Giotto" room and paid 140 euro per night. It was nicer than we expected, with tall ceilings, air conditioning, a large comfortable bed, and a surprisingly spacious bathroom. It even came with free bottled water in a mini-fridge. The breakfast was good too.

The person handling check-ins was very helpful and spoke fluent English, but the check-out process mostly consisted of hand signals and a few words like "taxi, airport". This was part of the fun for us, but could be a challenge for some. Also, the B&B is two floors up from ground level, and you have to walk up one long flight of stairs to reach the elevator. This is not a good place to stay if you struggle with stairs.
