“Nice, friendly & inexpensive restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

After researching on Trip Advisor, we arrived in Florence with a small list of likely restaurants, this being one of them. Trattoria da Ginone is situated roughly 10 minutes walk from the Ponte Vecchio in a street which although it couldn't in all honesty be described as Florence's prettiest, doesn't feel unsafe in any way. Since we were in the vicinity one afternoon we took the opportunity to book a table for two for 8.30 that evening. When the time came we somehow managed to arrive half an hour early (which the staff were kind enough not to mention), had a friendly greeting & were shown straight to a table. The restaurant was quiet at this time but an hour later was more or less full so booking is recommended. We didn't really need to see the menu as we had already decided on Bistecca Florentina. Florence's legendary T bone steak usually comes as a shared dish for two at a monsterous 3lb in weight & ours arrived with a side of roasted potatoes. It was quite an experience. Excellent flavour & in spite of its size, it seemed to disappear really quickly! We both really enjoyed ours although unsurprisingly we had no room for desert. One word of warning - Bistecca Florentina is served rare & I've seen reviews where people asked for medium rare or well done & thought their steak was still rare for their taste. This wasn't a problem for us - we loved it. This restaurant is reasonably located, serves delicious food & has a good atmosphere with friendly staff - a nice touch was the gift of a small bottle of red wine when we left. It wasn't expensive either - we had a litre of house red with our meal which was rather good & very reasonably priced - from our experience, house red in Florence is usually cheap & very good. I have no hesitation in giving this restaurant a good recommendation.

“Pasta Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012 via mobile

Great local restaurant - fabulous service, lovely atmosphere - sat at table next to couple who apparently come here every Friday night - and I can see why. Food, especially the pasta was wonderful, wine great and a small bottle given to us as a gift at the end if the night was a nice touch. Highly recommended.

“Simply excellent!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2012 via mobile

Food was fresh, very friendly staff, and the chef recommended very tasty food. We took white wine at first, one of the best I have ever tasted. Then we ate ravioli, fresh mozzarella salad, and meat which were the dish of the day. At the end, we chose desert i took creme brulee and a bottle of wine was given to us as a gift. We really loved the restaurant, very cosy, small, and we reserved ahead of time.

“Worth the wait”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

We crossed the bridge across the Arno and headed to this trattoria. When we got there the doors were closed because the staff was eating. They were gracious enough to let us know that they would open to the public at 7pm.

The wait was worth it. Each of the meals the four of us ordered were just great! I had pasta with eggplant. So good! I'm so used to eating breaded eggplant but this was just the eggplant. It was just right. The waiter kept up a high caliber of service. Next time we go back to Florence, we plan to go to Trattoria da Ginone.

“Excellent restaurant!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

Just came back after spending our one year wedding anniversary dinner there. Went there based on tripadvisor recommendations and it fulfilled all our expectations. The host and food were superb! Good food, excellent atmosphere, a host that knows his wines, ... A recommendation for everyone!!!
