“Just beautiful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

Spent the first part of our honeymoon here. Just gorgeous, romantic place decorated in tones of cream, black and other neutrals. Short cab ride from the train station. Good neighborhood in the Santa Croce area. This was more of a residential than tourist arrea (nice and quiet at night) but still within walking distance of shopping, attractions, restaurants (great place just a few doors down).

Comfortable lobby, lovely breakfast room with wonderful buffet style breakfasts, gracious service, reading room and courtyard. Our room (8) was HUGE with suite area and enormous terra cotta shower and antiques. The only weird thing about the bathroom was the shower stall (size of a small room) had no light and no ledge for toiletries The space was a medieval convent so there were lots of stairs (no elevator) but we didn't mind as the staff helps with luggage. The hotel has free wi fi (get code from desk) but stone walls made coverage a little iffy in spots. small price to pay for all that atmosphere. Staff was helpful with booking tours and taxis.

Would definitely stay here again.

We recently stayed at the J&J Hotel for 10 days and used it as a base to see the city and travel further a field in Italy. The Hotel is very nice although our room looked nothing like any on the website. We had room number 14 on the ground floor. The room was adequate but not for 10 days. We struggled to fit clothes for 2 into the small wardrobe and single chest of drawers and had to keep one of our 2 cases filled on the floor. The bed was massive and comfortable however the pillows were past their best and despite asking for more they never were supplied. Although Florence was wet at times the temperature was higher than we are used to so we asked if the heating could be turned off and the A/C turned on. We were told that no A/C is allowed on in Florence until later in the season, this was a bit dissappointing as the room had no way of ventilation other than an external door so was extremely stuffy. The only way to air the room was to open this door and when we did this the mosquetoes arrived and devoured us. When we mentioned our predicament to the desk staff one evening they said that they would deal with this by installing a fly killer. This helped kill some of the mosquetoes but then also gave me a sore throat because of the fumes. Not great when you have spent so much on a 10 day holiday.

We also had included a hot buffet breakfast and although adequate was the same every day for our whole trip. The hot food consisted of srambled egg and bacon of some description but there never seemed to be very much left no matter if you were early or late to breakfast. This food was kept warm and only just by some kind of parrafin lamp which normally made the very nice dining area stink of fumes. Other than that the food was good but just never changed. Coffee was good at breakfast but if you ever ordered coffee from the bar it was normally instant and not very good value for money.

The staff were helpfull and friendly but we believe understaffed at breakfast. There were not enough staff to attend to guests drink requirements, clear tables and replace food which had run out which meant that you often had to wait for cups, plates and other requirements to be brought to your table instead of them being ready when you sat down.

The hotel was beautiful inside and was very central as a base for exploring Florence, perhaps we were just suffering from being in room that was too hot and stuffy and filled with biting insects ?

Room Tip: Try a room on the first floor with windows that open to allow air in or go to Florence when they use...

From pre-booking our muesum ticket prior to arriving in Florence (highly recommend) to the end of our stay nothing was ever to much for the staff at Hotel J and J. We booked a junior suite for our two night stay and the room was huge and was priced very resonably. All the major places were in an easy walking distance without being to much in the middle of things. If your looking for a hotel you should definitely consider the Hotel J & J as an option.

I was at the end of my Italy trip (3 months) and what a wonderful way to end it. Because I had already had my share of less-than-adequate accommodations, my breath was taken away when I walked into my room -- Room No. 1. A quaint balcony with a winding stairway inside my room, a large comfortable bed, cozy seating either upstairs in the balcony overlooking the bedroom or downstairs, a lovely ample bathroom (with a shower curtain -- I noticed another reviewer didn't have a shower curtain), television with too many channels from which to choose.

Just outside my room, was a courtyard with several tables, and then easy access to a very comfortable sitting area and dining area of the hotel.

The staff were generous with their help and good attitude. I had a lot of luggage and they were quick to assist.

The hotel is located on a quiet side street, but is close to the popular sites. I took time to discover the area close by and found two street markets -- one with food and clothing, the other with antiques and knick-knacks -- quite close by. Also, a theater with almost nightly performances, is very close -- Teatro Verdi Firenze.

The included breakfast was ample, including freshly made espresso drinks.

The only drawback was the spotty WiFi connection. But, all I had to do was sit in one of the comfortable chairs or sofa in the sitting area to get better access.

Stayed here for 2 nights and wow what a hotel one of the best we have ever had the pleasure of staying in!

We where lucky enough to have a lovely room/Italian home on the courtyard. When we walked in the room was romantically lit, lovely old wood and beautiful curtains tied back throughout and an amazing archway to the bathroom. Bathroom had a lovely big back with huge showerhead over it perfect wake up call before the buffet breakfast!

Superb hotel not too far from everything in Florence but tucked away from all the hussle and Bustle!

Loved every second, if you are going to Florence dont think twice just stay here and ask for room 2! (even the woman behind the counter said it was a nice room)

We recently stayed at the J and J Hotel and have to say there was very little to fault with this hotel.
Although the hotel is hidden down a side street, it is easily within strolling distance of all the major sights and restaurants in Florence.
Our room was spacious with an enormous and luxurious bathroom and with patio doors leading out onto a little terrace that given better weather would have been fantastic!
Breakfast was simple but more than adequate, and we found the staff always extremely friendly and more than willing to help with booking restaurants etc.

Nevermind that there is no elevator (its an old house, so its only logical) but, BUT, rooms are huge, but there is no complimentary water, TV set sucks, bathroom is also huge but there is no shower curtains so its a bit cold to take a shower. Beds are great and breakfast goes beyond of what you expect from a buffet in Europe. Its a bit pricey for what it is. Ita romantic, rustic, and a couple of blocks from Santa María del Fiore. They charge 30€ a day for parking so, include that in your expenses if you are travelling in car. Thats it, cosy, nice, romantic, but if you start being picky, could be a bit better
