“Superb Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

Absolutely stunning views from the balconies on the river facing rooms. Situated on a lovely square and very close to most places to visit. Very well appointed and comfortable rooms with excellent service. Within walking distance of everything including the train station. The cafe outside is wonderful to sit in the afternoon and watch the world go by.

Room Tip: Ask for river facing rooms.

The St. Regis Florence is really a very well run establishment. I had high expectations given all of the glowing reviews I read both on Trip Advisor as well as the SPG site (Actually, as a Platinum SPG person - I always have high expectations at Starwood properties.)

The building itself is spectacular. They really did a great job with the renovation - updating the hotel with all of the modern amenities you would expect, and at the same time maintaining the history and elegance of the building. I had stayed at the hotel when it was the Grand - and it was nice, but I usually opted for the Excelsior across the piazza as it was just a notch above. Going forward, it would be difficult to go back to the Excelsior.

The service was also top notch. It was December, so the hotel was fairly quite, but the staff provided all of the service as if it was a full house. The butler service was especially appreciated. Very attentive and willing to help with most any request. (We had asked for help in connecting our iPad with the TV for viewing videos and it took them less then 10 minutes to get us conected!) Also, we had warm drinks most mornings and evenings and the service was prompt and beverages were expertly prepared.

The room itself was very nice. As an SPG Platinum member, I used my Suite Night Upgrades to confirm a Junior Suite prior to checking in. That worked out fine although they had confirmed a suite with a separate living room, but the one we were allocated was just a larger room with a sitting area. (Not a huge issue - in the grand scheme of things - the view was terrific, but I was traveling with my nephew and it would have been nice to have had some separation.)

We took advantage of the evening Champagne ritual each night at 7:00 pm in the Winter Garden. Very nice - excellent nibbles and great bubbly! Great way to prepare for a night out. And the breakfast was excellent! They had a really amazing spread with most everything you could think of - and the service was exceptional.

The only disappointmnet I might mention was a tiny lack of coordination between reservations and the front office. I had communicated with both the reservations team (Italy) as well as with the Starwood Platinum desk with two special requests before my arrival; first to have a room with two separate beds, and second that I was celebrating a milestone birthday. Unfortunately, when I arrived - it seemed like that message was never passed on to the folks at check-in.

Overall it was a great stay. And given the level of service and quality of amenities, I would also say it was an excepional value.

Room Tip: As most foks have commented, request a room with a view!

Dera ThomMSeattle, We are really glad we met your high expectations given by the glowing reviews posted in our favor. As SPG Platinum Member, we know how important is for you to receive a high level of standards, from the elegant environment that we create (celebrating every night the Champagne Ritual in the Winter Garden or serving the buffet breakfast in the Balcony over the Winter Garden) to the attention that our entire Staff dedicate to each guest (and in this our butler service is unsurpassed). Thank you. Ombretta – The Lobby Butler

My husband, 11year old daughter and I stayed here. From the moment we walked in the staff could not be friendlier, especially to my daughter. The hotel was beautiful. The room was spacious. The decor was very regal. The bathroom was large and very clean. There was an enormous walk in closet in our room. We had a butler assigned to our room who was so helpful. She gave us restaurant recommendations and ideas for things to do. The room we ate breakfast in every morning was absolutely beautiful. The location was perfect! We could not have asked for a more perfect hotel!

We stayed at the St. Regis in Florence for a week in early December and the hotel was beyond anything we had experienced. The physical property, the location, and, above all, the superb staff. From the moment we stepped foot in the hotel (where we were upgraded to a magnificent junior suite overlooking the Arno River), everyone made us feel like it was their greatest pleasure to take care of us, especially the outstanding Butler Service staff, including Juliana and Andrea. Yes, it is on the expensive side, but it is a trip we will never forget, thanks in large part to the St. Regis and its staff.

Room Tip: Worth a little more expense to face the Arno River

My family & I had a vacation in Florence recently.

This was our first time to this beautiful Italian city. When we arrived at the hotel by taxi, we were welcomed immediately at the door step & someone ushered us all the way to the front office for check-in. Very impressive indeed.

The hotel lobby is very modern and elegant in term of the design. We were told that the hotel was recently completed with the renovation. Very stunning interior of the lobby, which includes a library.

I must say the guest services provided by the team at front office, concierge & restaurant were truly exceptional, not forgetting the butlers who satisfied us with all our needs & attended to our queries during our stay there. This simple human touch provided us the memorable traveling experience in Florence.

We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone who appreciates the modern design in the historical building and excellent level of guest services.

We stayed in the St Regis in early December and it was a good hotel to see Florence from. It is slightly to the west of the busy centre on the north bank of the Arno.

Firstly the decor is grand and with all the Christmas decorations out it was lovely. On one night we sat in the bar listening to a pianist drinking cocktails which was great. The is a library downstairs as well as a small shop, the dinning room/bar and reception. We did eat in the hotel twice and the food and drink was very good although on the expensive side.

Our room was the basic type, however fully equipped with a four piece bathroom set and a shower over hanging the bath. Lovely marble and porcelain finish and you even get a hair dryer which was good enough to dry my wife's hair. The room had a huge comfy super king size bed plus enough wardrobe space for a few days and dressing table, side tables, tv etc. The rooms were really well decorated in keeping with the hotel decor. The only thing about the rooms was a faint smell of damp but nothing you would really notice.

Breakfast was served up on the balcony overlooking the dining room. We were always greeted with a smile and nothing was too much of a problem. There was a reasonable selection of foods, huge amount of breads and pastries as well as cereals, however and four different warm foods. The were about 6 different fruits on offer but this is where the hotel could do better. The strawberries tasted like defrosted frozen strawberries. For a 5* hotel I would expect fresh or none at all. There was also a counter that served omelettes and pancakes. This was the second area which needs improvement as the pancakes arrive in plastic bags and are heated up in the microwave, arranged on a plate and then have king sugar sprinkled on them. The pancakes tasted dry and not very fresh. The cappuccino was great as was the filter coffee and the juices on the sharp side but I like that (and the tasted very fresh).

The staff were very helpful, courteous and always smiling. This goes for the reception staff, concierge, porter, breakfast and bar staff. On the last day we had a problem with the transfer to the airport and they were very helpful in getting it sorted. Overall I would give the staff 5 out of 5.

I would definitely go back to this hotel as it is well located without being in the busy centre, it is pretty to look at and the service is excellent. Just a couple of niggles to iron out and it would be a 5 out of 5 from me.

Beautiful hotel in a great setting, it sits on a pedestrian square overlooking the Arno. Our room was beautiful with a fresco on one of the walls. They have a great cafe where you can sit and people watch. The concierge was the highlight of the hotel. He gave us phenomenal suggestions for restaurants like Buca Mario and sent us to the Westin roof top bar to watch the sunset.
