I have been there twice in the last 2 years. The first time I spent 3 relaxing hours admiring the sculptures and pictures I knew I wanted to see. HAVE A PLAN!! It is immense and can be over-whelming if you just walk in cold. Have a guide book and get the audio tour....better yet get a tour guide. That is the best way to get the most out of it. PRE-PURCHASE TICKETS!! I can not emphasis that with this or any other big attraction such as the Vatican, Colessum, Accedemia. You will save your self hours of time and the frustration of standing in long lines. It may cost slightly more but can you put a price on standing in line while abroad...I think not. You can get them on-line or your hotel can usually arrange them. You must go across the street to redeem your tickets. The area is not well marked and can be confusing but don't do what we did....wait in a long line just to find out we were in the wrong place. Once you get in, let go of the outside world and enjoy some of the most beautiful art in the world!!
