In general in Italy, if you are looking for the best of anything gastronomic, leave the piazza and search the backstreets. Such gems you will find: Gelateria della Passera is one of these. A tiny hole-in-the-wall place around the corner from Palazzo Pitti, for my Euros it easily has the best gelato in Florence. I stop here again and again, after making purchases at my favorite stationers nearby I always swing by to see whether the Pompelo Rosa sorbeto is on the menu today. It is a magical, if improbable combination. All of the flavors here are unusual and out of this world. Another winner was Crema Profumo, a mixture of, roughly, chai spices that give the gelato an incredible perfume that fills your whole head. And the prices are very moderate. So take the time and reward yourself with an adventure in seeking out the best!!
