Description: At La Bottega del Buon Caffe we have been producing seasonal authentic Florentine dishes for years. Yet, the summer of 2014 marks the start of a new era as the Buon Caffe team launch a selection of exciting new organic and gourmet concepts. In collaboration with the restaurant's new owners, Claus and Jeanette Thottrup, Buon Caffe's head chef, Francesco Gasbarro, has successfully developed fresh and innovative gourmet menus which are now available both at lunch and dinner. With the emphasis on natural locally sourced ingredients, Buon Caffe offers authentic Tuscan food that creatively combines the best of classic and contemporary cuisine. Authenticity and honesty is at the heart of all we create at Buon Caffe and our menus are created individually according to the season. Today's catch of fresh fish is delivered from the Mediterranean daily, free-range meats are supplied by local artisan farmers and our vegetables, fruit, herbs and honey are bought from our farm in the country. Respecting our Florentine location our menus are designed to reflect the region's unique gastronomic heritage and vibrant culinary culture.

“A world class experience!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2011 via mobile

We were staying about 5 min from the duomo... We walked (direction away from river) and it's about 20 min on foot. It is away from the tourist trappy areas and was full of locals. It's warm, cozy and calm.

Francesco (chef) and his brother were both very friendly and accommodating. We did the 5 course tasting with dessert and though gnocchi was not on the menu Francesco made it specially because my wife told them she loves it.

The best part... ALL THE FOOD WAS SCRUMPTIOUS WITH FLAVOUR AND INCREDIBLY CREATIVE!!! Examples of marvelous dishes included a pumpkin mousse with goat cheese ice cream to kick things off, a fois GRAS creme brûlée as a savory twist on two classic creations and incredible home made cheesecake with peach ice cream.

This restaurant is truly a 'best kept secret' type of place that easily rivals world class restaurants we have tried in New York and San Francisco without the hoidy toidy prices and attitude. It's a little more pricey than the typical places in the tourist mobbed areas but is MILES ahead in terms of atmosphere and food quality.

If you are a 'foodie' this is DEFINITELY A MUST! You will not forget it. We will def go back. Surely by that time we'll have to reserve weeks in advance...

“Would go back in a New York minute”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2011

Our two dinners here (it was so good we ate there on consecutive nights) were one of the highlights of our trip to Florence. Because of our very limited Italian, our gracious and easy-going host explained the menu to us in excellent English. The food was delicious. The restaurant is not large. It has a very chic interior that feels very comfortable. We are so glad we found this place!

“simply the freshest and most splendid in town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2011

starting with the ingredients, here at La Bottega everything is just right, small and cozy, charming service, every dish is bright, straight forward, no unnecessary artistry, but still great technique and focus on freshest flavors. Highly recommend for porkaholics, and in general over any other restaurant in the Tuscan capital.

“3 weeks in Italy - Best meal we had hands down.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2010

We went to Italy on our honeymoon to eat and drink and see the sights... but mostly to eat and drink wine. We stayed at a B&B (IL GIGLIO D'ORO) across the street and decided to have dinner here after having come in for cappuccino and pastries a couple times in the morning. Having worked in a lot of restaurants I saw a couple things that tipped me off right away that this place was serious about food. The menu was short and highlighted seasonal ingredients; they had spiegelau wine glasses not cheap restaurant wear.

The dinner started with home made wheat rolls and focaccia breads. They gave us an amuse bouche of pea puree with fresh goat cheese. We had an asparagus gratin with brie as antipasto followed by pecorino stuffed tortellini with with roasted tomatoes and basil and tomato infused olive oil. I had duck and my husband had a roasted pork shank with cheese cake and creme brulee for desert.

EVERYTHING was fantastic. The owners were very friendly as was the staff. They helped us translate the menu and explain what was in each dish and it was clear that they took real pride in their work.

We never had a bad meal (shocking right) in Italy. After Florence we went to Cinque Terre, Montalcino, and Alba and had really good food everywhere we went, but this still stuck out as the best meal we had on the trip. Couldn't recommend it more highly.
