“Heart of Florence”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

Hotel Macchiaioli is in a perfect location for Florence. Very close to the Duomo, Galleria (David), and a great home base for all that you will want to see in Florence. Ponte Vecchio is a good walk, but you'll need it anyway since you'll be eating!

Very clean rooms, with excellent and friendly staff.

Room Tip: Every room is great, but choose the least expensive since you won't be in your room except for r...

My girlfriend and I stayed at this hotel for 7 nights in August. We were highly satisfied with it's location (a minute away from Piazza del Duomo, 10 minutes away from the main train station Firenze Santa Maria Novella). Our room wasn't luxurious (it's a three star hotel) but proved to be more than satisfactory for us and the staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. In fact, the hotel's management responded to all our queries (prior to booking) immediately and with utmost courtesy. Our only suggestion is for the hotel to place a greater emphasis on cleanliness in the rooms, and our air conditioning was a little bit noisy sometimes, but other than that it is definitely value for money and a great hotel. Missing it and Florence already.

Our family stayed at Hotel dei Macchiaioli for three nights in August. We took the family suite. This is a separate area of the hotel (next to the breakfast room) that has a door to close off the corridor to the two rooms and two bathrooms. The twin room had a double bed and the staff had also made up a separate twin bed. The bathroom is at the end of the corridor. The room was small but adequate for our two teenage boys. However, they found the bathroom too small. The toilet is inconveniently located next to the shower door making it difficult to use for anyone larger than a small child. But our two boys did manage and they used our bathroom when the need arose. The second bedroom was very large with a double bed and an ensuite bathroom which was very spacious.
The location of this hotel was absolutely perfect and easy to get around Florence. The staff were absolutely exceptional some of the best we have ever encountered. Especially Ariana ! She came running down to help us with our luggage and that was only the beginning! We wanted to eat at a particular restaurant. She told us to go ahead and start our sightseeing and she would continue to call the hotel to get us a reservation. She finally got through to the restaurant and called us with the reservation. She had also reserved tickets for us at the Uffizi and the Accademia.
Breakfast was also very good. Lots of cold cuts, boiled eggs, fruit, cereal and pastries. The lady who takes care of the buffet area was also fantastic. She allowed us to stay longer so that our older son could eat since he had slept a little late after our journey.
I would definitely choose this hotel again.

My daughter and I stayed here from Aug.11-15. Everyone at the Hotel went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We arrived early, but our room was ready. We left after check out so they held our luggage until we departed Florence. They breakfast was plentiful. The rooms were nice size. The showers small, but we expected it. We felt location was great. Recommended Restaurants for us were helpful, but you could eat anywhere. Remember you must walk up 2 flights of stairs carrying your luggage! No big deal, pack light.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't get the Handicapped room.(105) We found it difficult. We should have stayed...

We only stayed one night here, but the staff were helpful and accommodating. The room was comfy and clean.it was close to the main attractions, with easy walking to most places. The only problem was that the address that they provided did not come up on our GPS . It should be Via Camille Cavour 21, not Via Cavour 21.

According to a notice on the reception desk the Hotel has ambitions to achieve an overall 5 rating on Tripadvisor. I wish them well but they have some way to go. On the plus side, the Hotel is in a great location just a few minutes walk from the Duomo. Room was clean, bright and nicely air-conditioned. Staff were friendly and helpful if, in some respects, a little amateurish. Biggest negative was breakfast which was at best average. First day no one had remembered to switch on coffee machine. Second day no one had remembered to put out tray with meat and cheese. Tinned fruit salad, poor quality meat and cheese and the worst machine made coffee I have ever tasted in Italy made breakfast a less than memorable experience. You shouldn't have to go for a coffee in the cafe along the street to get rid of the taste! Hotel is not well signposted and the reception is one floor up (without a lift) so if you can't remember the number and have a large suitcase you are in trouble!

Hotel Del Macchiaioli highly recommended, 5 mins taxi ride to train station, 5 to 10 mins walk to Duomo & shopping area, very friendly and helpful staffs. We joined the tour to Clique Terra, Marco have kindly help us booked the tour, absolutely fantastic day out to the outskirts. Took a bus to the Outlet stores, as the bus interchange is just nearby.Room is clean and well maintained. Toilet is very good condition too. Museums around but we do not have time to explore... Florence is a beautiful small town, need at least 4- 5 days to explore surroundings. Oh have I mention the taxi drivers are all of Models' quality?
