“Great Place to Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

I was very happy with my stay here. It was within perfect walking distance from the centre and offered a very decent price. The hotel was easy to find from the train station and about a 10 minute walk. The room was clean and comfortable. No view, but I was only there to sleep!

“Perfecto! Staff, location, service, price Excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

We "3 Sisters from California" highly recommend this hotel! We had the pleasure of staying at this location for 5 wonderful nights. We felt at home the moment we arrived! We were given a tour of the hotel, shown the breakfast and seating areas; if you need WiFi it is free and worked great. They show a GENUINE INTEREST in making sure you have a WONDERFUL time in Florence! The room and bathroom were very comfortable for 3 women sharing a space. The hotel is in the perfect location!!!! You can walk to everything. The staff is warm, friendly, and professional; always available to answer questions. I made arrangements for a private city tour with Paolo on our first night. The tour was excellent Paolo is very knowledgeable in the history of the city as well as the arts. The tour was worth every euro! Be sure to have a Tuscan Steak before you leave the city; the staff can give you a recommendation on where. Enjoy a cooking class and a wine tour is a must!

We would like to THANK all our friends at the "Hotel dei Macchiaioli" for helping to make our time in Florence very special!

We will be back!

Room Tip: Book directly with hotel. If you have questions include them in the comments, they do reply. Mak...

“Great location, Great Staff, Great Price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

We checked out of Hotel dei Macchiaioli this morning. The hotel is on the second floor with no elevator but the owner came down and was eager to help with out bags. She is fantastic as is Paolo and the rest of the staff.

Located about two blocks from the Duomo it is easy to walk to everything in central Florence. It is also easy to reach from the central train station.

The rooms are on the small side but are modern and kept very clean. The TV's are small but you're likely not in Florence to sit in your room. For a small hotel Hotel dei Macchiaioli has big common areas which are beautiful and well kept with incredible ceilings. Breakfast is served in a large room overlooking the street below. There are an assortment of cold cuts and cheeses, juices, cereal, hardboiled eggs and fruit. There is an automated coffee/tea/espresso machine but you can also ask for a cappuccino from their bar and they'll happily bring you one.

Both Paolo and the hotel information sheet recommended Giglio Rosso for dinner. Usually when a hotel pushes for a restaurant I'm skeptical but on the last night of our three nights in Florence we ate there. We got there early and were wondering if we had made a mistake since there were no customers. However, once the gnocchi with radicchio and gorgonzola arrived all doubts were dismissed. The place did fill up as we ate with a many locals mixed in with busloads of tourists.

Paolo also sent us to Il Cernacchino for lunch. This is the best lunch spot that we found with incredible 4 euro sandwiches, breadbowls filled with stew or meatballs, fresh lasagna and a bunch of other incredible house-made dishes. If you have restraint you can walk out full and happy for 5 euro. If you, like us, you lack any restraint you can stuff yourself for a little bit more.

We booked two nights through the hotel's website and subsequently booked one more night while we were there. Both methods yielded great prices.

Our only minor complaints were that the heating/AC units had been switched to heat only since it was November. The windows in Rooms 112 and 110 open to an interior courtyard/shaft that is shared with a restaurant ventilation hood. When opened during business hours the rooms get to smelling like a restaurant.

All in all a great staff and hotel.

“Location Location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

We had the pleasure of staying here in September for 4 nights, during a 26 day trip around Italy. Special thanks to Paolo at the hotel. He helped us in many ways during our stay.
First, Firenze is wonderful, and we will definitely be back. Sooo much to do and see.
As for the hotel, the location was perfect, within a few blocks of the Duomo, and the Academia where the David is on display, and many other attractions.
The hotel itself provided very good accommodations. The hotel was intimate, exceptionally clean, and overall a very good place to stay. It was a but sparse, but that was fine.
We would recommend the hotel to anyone who is most interested in location, and willing to give up a little in luxury. We would definitely come back and stay here on our return trip to Firenze.
Grazie to all the staff!

“Great location, fair price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

Out of all the cities we visited in Italy, Florence is our favorite. And the Hotel dei Macchiaioli's convenient location and fair price make it the best bargain in the city. As it was our first trip to Florence, we weren't familiar with the layout of the city, so we took a cab to the hotel from the train station. We later discovered that we could have easily walked to the hotel and saved 10 euros. The layout of the city is very easy to navigate once you familiarize yourself with it, and the Hotel dei Macchiaioli is located in a perfect spot, just a few blocks north of the Duomo, and a block north of the main pedestrian street.

The two main museums in Florence (the Accademia and Uffizi Gallery) are both within easy walking distance (the Accademia is just around the corner, while Uffizi and Palazzo Vecchio are only 5-10 minutes to the south by foot.) There is a terrific restaurant (Mangiafuoco Bracerie) just one block north, several great shopping places along the way to Piazza dei Vecchio, and tons of great gelato places.

The hotel itself is very clean and well-maintained, with a friendly and helpful staff. Free breakfast consists of the usual Italian fare: coffee, bread, pastries, fruit and meat. Free wifi is a nice amenity. And the rooms are quiet (at least in November) and comfortable.
