I stayed at the Piccolo Principe B&B for 4 nights in late April 2013, and have to say I came away impressed. I stayed in several hotels, B&Bs, and hostels during my Euro vacation, and the Piccolo Principe came out as one of the best expereinces. First I have to say that Riccardo and Ilaria - the owners of the B&B- will bend over backwards to help accommodate you with whatever you may need. Riccardo graciously set an appointment for my partner and I at the Accademia upon request, and had several good restaurant and wine suggestions. They were both extremely friendly and hospitable.
My room was a good size, with a big and comfortable bed. The bathroom was large and very clean. The breakfast served every morning was delicious and plentiful. Plus they keep the breakfast room and kitchen open 24 hours in case you want a late night snack. There is also a kitchen to bring, store, and prepare your own meals if you so desire. I think the value (I think I paid about 79Euro/night combined for both me and my partner) was as good as you could ask for in that price range.
The location of the B&B was a little bit away from the center of the city, about a 15 or 20 minute walk to the Duomo. But the walk is a nice one. The neighborhood is perfectly safe, with the smaller of the two city train stations - Campo Marte- within a 10 minute walk. There were no noise problems to deal with at night.
If I had to bring up one negative, it would be that the wifi did not reach my room (my room was the furthest from the modem, and so I think the only room with such a problem), so I would have to go to the kitchen, hallway, or breakfast room to get online. Personally, being 'unplugged' from the world of emails, facebook, and twitter was a part of my vacation I greatly enjoyed, so this was not an issue for me whatsoever. I am also sure that Riccardo and Ilaria would accommodate you with a room closer to the modem if this was a problem for you.
Overall, I would strongly recommend the Piccolo Principe for a stay in Florence, if you are fine with being a bit away from the city center. I cannot wait to stay here again during my next visit to Florence!
