“Went here twice in one day....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

Love love love this gelato shop! I came here about four years ago with a friend and thought it was delicious then - but after waiting for so long to try it again - it does not disappoint! For €2.50 you can get two massive scoops of deliciousness - don't let the queue put you off!

“Hands down the best gelato in Florence (and perhaps anywhere)!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

Ever wonder why the Florentines you see eating around you in restaurants at dinner rarely order dessert? It's because they save their appetites and go to La Carraia afterwards! Located two bridges down from the Ponte Vecchio on the "other" side of the Arno river (Oltrarno) on the corner before the bridge, La Carraia serves gelato from lunch through midnight 11 months per year (they are closed during the "slow" month of January). More than half of the customers in line at any time (there is always a line, but it moves very fast, and you are usually served within 5-10 minutes of joining the line) are locals and not tourists. Smallest sizes of cones (1 euro for one flavor or "gusto") and cups (1.5 euros for two flavors or "gusti") up through the largest sizes of 3-4 euros (more than any human being can really eat). Favorite flavors include stracciatella (chocolate chip), fondante (dark chocolate), ricotta and pear, chocolate and orange peel, tiramisu mousse and gianduia (chocolate and hazelnut). No other gelateria comes even close!

Amazing ice cream, amazing range of flavours and amazing staff. Wish it was in London! White chocolate pistachio is a must try!

“Best Gelato in Florence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

This place has BY FAR the best gelato I have ever tasted. There are so many flavors to choose from, and I have yet to try one that I didn't like. My personal favorites are Frollina al Limone and the pear/ricotta flavor. You will 100% not be disappointed if you go here. There is even a second location on Via de Benci, closer to the center of Florence. There aren't as many flavor choices, but the man who owns it is very very nice! When studying abroad I went here almost every single day for 6 weeks (sometimes twice a day) and never got sick of it. You also get a lot of gelato for the price. The servings are very generous.

“Gelato on the corner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

Classic gelato flavors and so much more. Very good prices and portions are huge! Try the Ricotta e Pera if they have it- you won't be disappointed. They also will top your gelato with whipped cream for an extra 30 cents. Haven't tried that yet, but it's on my list. A tip for all gelato junkies out there: never eat gelato that is stacked tall and covered with toppings, if it's covered it's better, most gelaterias on the corner of bridges are good, except when you are by Ponte Vecchio.
