“Best nights sleep!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

OK. If you need a central B and B or a place near the station this is the place to go to. A good find and I would highly recommend it. We arrived late and Donatello gave us his word and was there. A great clean room and so quiet. A delicious breakfast the next morning....Tea, coffee, cereals, fruit, yoghurt and croissants. Also thank you Donatello for recommending that fabulous restaurant in Sicelle. That was the best meal we had on holiday.

Room Tip: Just ask for a quiet room.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in September and we had a great time. The location is ideal if you are travelling by bus or train, and it is great for seeing the sights. The host gives GREAT recommendations wrt restaurants, places to visit and gelato! You will have a great time.

First off, the location is perfect, about 2 blocks from the train station and walking distance to just about all the attractions in Florence. Donatello is an amazing host, and his Inn, which he built himself by the way, feels like home but with all the amenities of a nice hotel. We particularly enjoyed his breakfast in the morning. He made us real italian coffee and had a great spread of cereal, fruit, yogurt, and local pastries. He gave us lots and lots of insider tips on things to see, places to eat, and how to get around. He actually spent quite a lot of time with us helping us figure out our plans for the city which was greatly appreciated. He has a very genuine interest in making his clients extremely happy and certainly goes above and beyond. The decor of this inn is super cool and very unique - obviously inspired by a good dose of rock n roll. Oh - and he has a computer with free internet access for his guests - a very nice perk if you are traveling light, as we were. If we are ever in Florence again, it will be a no-brainer to stay here again.

THANKS DONATELLO!!!

Room Tip: The silver suite is actually quite large and could fit a couple traveling with a child - or 3 people...

Donatello was a great host and we loved our stay at this B&B.

Home-like feel:
This is an apartment-style B&B with a limited number of rooms and on the 3/F, so required a walk up stairs. However, we loved that we were staying in an actual apartment which gave us a feel for how living in Florence would actually be like. Since there weren't many guests at the same time, it felt like we had the apartment to ourselves sometimes.

Location:
Donatello gave us suggestions for restaurants to eat nearby which were great. Location was walking distance to all major attractions, and was very near the train station (you can walk with luggage, no problem).

Service:
Donatello was very kind in helping us with our luggage when we checked in and out, so the floor wasn't an issue at all! He gave us a map and was accessible via email or phone for the times he wasn't in the apartment.

Unique decor:
Donatello's decor of the house was very unique and cozy. We loved the way our room was designed and felt truly at home. The bathroom was spacious and very comfortable as well.

Internet:
The internet in the room was generally good, and there is a desktop computer in the living room that you can use too.

Breakfast:
Donatello prepared breakfast in the morning and this included organic croissants, juice, tea/coffee, yoghurt and bananas. This was definitely a good breakfast and we enjoyed chatting with him in the morning. He was very flexible about the time we wanted to have breakfast, too.

Cleaning:
The room was very clean! One point to note is we stayed two nights and the room wasn't cleaned in between. This may be the norm for some B&Bs and we totally did not mind, but perhaps for longer stays this is done.

--
We truly enjoyed our stay at this charming B&B and strongly recommend it for people visiting Florence. This is your chance to try what living in Florence would be really like vs. the more conventional hotel-style B&Bs or accommodations.

Black Sheep B&B is, quite simply, charming. It is NOT for the faint of heart or those who prefer staying in a predictable hotel chain. I much prefer staying in B&Bs, and Black Sheep is one of the best. Very close to the train and bus stations, through a little door, and up 3 flights of stairs, no elevator. Fortunately, Donatello helps with the bags! When you get there, it's worth it. Donatello has remodeled the space using recycled materials in creative ways, to create a pleasingly eclectic but cohesive environment. Beds are comfortable, rooms are large, clean, well-appointed and quiet. Breakfast featured pastries from the bakery down the street, along with other goodies. Donatello and Francesca were gracious and informative hosts, directing us to the best gelato, bistecca, pizza, shopping, sight-seeing, people-watching, etc, along with directions and instructions. We spent 4 nights there, near the end of a two-week trip to Italy. The weather was rainy and cold (early March 2013) - Black Sheep warmed our hearts, souls and fingers and toes. I am already planning my return trip!

great experience at the black sheep. The decor was excellent and most of all Donatello was a charming host with lots of advises and tips for his guests. The rooms were huge and not like other hotels...Really enjoyed our 5 nights there:-) want to return with my hubby!

Room Tip: Ensuite bathrooms are the best:-)

We had a really fun stay in Florence and Donatello was great to chat to and very helpful with everything, from helping with luggage to organic breakfasts. The place is spotless and we were fortunate to have the whole apartment to ourselves for the 2 nights that we spent in Florence.

All the other positive comments about proximity to the train and bus station are true. Go there and enjoy the experience!!
