“Historical flavour in the heart of Florence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

Staying at the Hotel Palazzo Guadagni was an interesting and satisfactory experience: when you walk inside the palace door and then into the your room you have the unique feeling you are surrounded by history. The rooms are wide and clean and the personnel always pleasant and educated. Furthermore the terrace, from which you can enjoy a lovely citysight, undoubtedly represents the true gem of the hotel. According to me, in order to enjoy the hotel at its best you should be suitable for the stay, meaning that you are a tourist who loves staying in an historical building, otherwise this unique atmosphere could turn into a disadvantage, if you are used to new or freshly renovated high-end hotels.

The Palazzo Guadagni is what I imagined, or should I say wanted, Florence to be: gracious. The staff was exceptional in their attentive service and genuine care. The setting was an art lover's dream: the Guadagni's graceful balcony overlooked the thriving center of piazza Santo Spirito and opened into the neighborhoods of artisans and creative small restaurants and bars. Because of the height of the Palazzo we had endless views of the active piazza, the neighboring rooftops and Tuscan hills. It was good to be in a real neighborhood, away from throngs of tourists. Our walks were very special, leisurely finding our way to numerous churches, gardens and neighborhoods. It was an easy walk over the Santa Trinita bridge to spend time on the other side of the Arno to visit San Marco, the Accademia, Santa Maria Novella, etc. We never needed a taxi except to go to and from the airport. Ten days was simply not enough time for exploration, nor at the Guadagni. Our large room and bath were exceptional; our ceiling had a lovingly painted fresco. All was very clean and well maintained. Breakfast was a delight with its variety of fresh foods and delicious coffee. The staff anticipated every need during our stay. The hotel deserved more than 3 stars. I would love to be instantly transported to The Guadagni again for a blissful time on their balcony. It would be like coming home again.

Room Tip: Ask the staff when booking. Tell them your needs. The staff will do all they can to accommodate.

Staying at the Hotel Palazzo Guadagni was the best decision we made. The location is perfect, away from the crowds on the other side of the river and yet so close (an easy walk) to all the major sights. Wonderful restaurants are in abundance; the morning market is right outside the door; the terrace is beautiful; rooms are so large.....a taste of old Florence with modern amenities. Will definitely return.

We stayed here for three nights and the location is great. Virtually everything in Florence is walk able and you wouldn't want to hire a car. This hotel is minutes from the Pitti Palace so across the Ponte Vecchio Bridge and on the opposite side to the Uffizi and other major attractions however they are all within 15 minutes walk.
We were slightly surprised when we arrived as the hotel is on the second floor and at the time the square the hotel overlooks was closed as they regularly have open food markets there. Inside the building is reminiscent of beautiful tall Florentine buildings.
Do ask for a room on the first floor where tall windows & beautiful cornices are the norm. We stayed on the top floor which lacks any of the finesse found on the lower floor and although our room was spacious we were disappointed having opted for the more luxurious room.
Breakfast is quiet but sufficient. The hotel has a beautiful veranda and multiple lounges for guests to relax.
Getting to Florence is easy. The train (approx 8 Euros) runs between Florence to Pisa Venice or Rome. One tip though, do validate your ticket by putting it into the machine by each platform prior to travelling or you will be fined.
Everything in Florence is expensive and the restaurants outside the hotel are no exception. Expect to pay £30 for pizza and some pasta and up to 5 Euros for an ice-cream on the Ponte Vecchio Bridge. It's a beautiful location and well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a first floor room

I stayed at this gorgeous boutique hotel for 2 nights in June. Tucked away on the Piazza Santo Spirito it is in comfortable walking distance to most of Florence's attractions. The rooms are spacious with simple elegant decor and frescos on the ceilings. The terrace as mentioned by others is a peaceful haven in between outings day and night. The staff were delightful and very welcoming. My son had dropped off a bag a week before my arrival and it was waiting in my room when I checked in. The lovely Trattoria La Casalinga just around the corner was a great recommendation for delicious, authentic and reasonably priced local fare, just make sure you make a booking as very popular with the locals.

This hotel was quite simply one of the nicest we have ever stayed in. The sheer delight of being in such a historic building, beautifully restored with spacious rooms and excellent facilities was a treat not to be missed. Breakfast was delicious, the location was perfect being both quiet but within an easy walk of all the main sights of Florence, all the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and there was a stunning open verandah with beautiful views. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

We had an amazing one night stay here. The staff were super-helpful, even taking us to two different rooms on two different floors for us to choose one. The palazzo is beautiful and very grand, the bedroom had a classic florence view, fab shower & very comfy bed but the real star of this hotel is the loggia terrace that we were lucky enough to have to ourselves for a drink at sunset. The view over piazza santo spirito is amazing, a very special spot.

Room Tip: Choose piazza side for views or courtyard side for peace and privacy.
