“Great Italian Villa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2010

This newly opened property is a conversion of an old Italian villa located about 10 minutes outside Florence. As such, the property has some quirks, such as oddly shaped rooms. There was only one restaurant open and with it's limited menu, eating each night at the hotel is not an option. I believe they are adding a second restaurant, which will be a great help. The restaurant that was open was on a terrace overlooking Florence and has great service and very good food. A very romantic setting. The hotel staff provides very personal service and it's hard to turn a corner without being greeted by name. A nice touch. The hotel has a great spa where we enjoyed a great massage. Overall, we had a great time and will return.

Il Salviatino exemplifies relaxed, yet refined elegance with state of the art comforts and amenities, coupled with breathtaking views of Florence and service beyond compare.

From the moment we arrived, I knew we had made the right choice of accommodations while in Florence. The fragrance of Italian fruits and flowers permeates the air as you enter the villa, which sends your senses soaring. Then there is the view! The shaded terrace where we were ushered upon arrival, and given cocktails to enjoy while settling into comfortable white leather couches, overlooks the Duomo and all the red-tiled roofs of Florence below.

This was a very special birthday vacation, and although we wanted to see the sights in Florence, it was a tremendous comfort to return to the villa away from the bustling crowds below. The villa offers a complimentary shuttle to and from the city, which is only 5-10 minutes, depending on traffic. The town of Fiesole is a short walk, or drive up, up, up to the most spectacular views of the valley below. Although it was late April and not quite hot when we visited, I understand the location of Il Salviatino affords a nice breeze during the hotter months.

One of the highlights of our trip was a hot-air balloon ride over Chianti. We were picked up by car one morning at 6:00am and taken about 25 minutes to our pilot's home near Val de Pesa. After inflating the balloon in his backyard, we hopped in and took off. We floated along peacefully above vineyards, cottages and castles for about 45-minutes, wherever the wind blew us. Finally, we settled down in a vineyard as gently as a cloud thanks to our masterful pilot (Pascal) along with the help of his wife (Kirsten) and son (Ollie). We then enjoyed a champagne breakfast with freshly made goat cheeses, breads and jams, all while completely euphoric after a wonderful flight. It was pure magic! We highly recommend Tuscany Ballooning if you are looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

My husband and I were treated like royalty during our stay at Il Salviatino, even enjoying a private tour of the villa's suites and grounds. The staff at Il Salviatino showed impeccable hospitality and warmth, anticipating our every need, yet without being intrusive. We are deeply appreciative to Raffaelo and Camilla, our personal ambassadors. They took great care to make certain we felt completely at home during our stay. Francesco dazzled us with an unforgettable evening at Grappolo, pairing fantastic regional wines with his spot-on recommendations from the talented chefs. It was a delight for the senses. And, Simone greeted us warmly each morning with the most delicious breakfast on the terrace.

The suite to which we were graciously upgraded was breathtaking, with a sitting area and an enormous fireplace, a full dining table and a dreamy, king-sized bed. The mirror/TV/Internet was unlike anything I've ever seen before! And the luxurious bathroom with soaking tub and rain shower was filled with top-of-the-line amenities. There is nothing this villa lacks. I implore you to visit, and fall in love with it, just as we did. I hope we return very soon.

We stayed at Il Salviatino for 2 nights and could not have stayed at a better hotel. The villa is situated in a fantastic location with clear views of Florence city and the famous Duomo.

I would highly recommend booking a room with the city views of Florence. Rooms are spacious with large windows. The plasmas in the rooms are just amazing and something I have yet not seen in any other hotel. The t.v illuminates from the Glass Mirror! Definitely a must see! The standard of service is high, thanks to a team of ambassadors assigned to each guest.

You can enjoy Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner all Al Fresco while taking in the views of Florence. Sunset is not to be missed outside, sitting on the Chic white leather sofas sipping a glass of wine!

I would not stay anywhere else other than Il Salviatino when visiting Florence!

This stunning hotel looks to bein the middle of nowhere but I was very pleased to see that it was just on the outskirts of Florence and easy to head into town using the hotel shuttle or taxi. The hotel itself is unlike any other with a complete 'home from home' feel - that is if you are used to living in a stately home with butlers and staff at your ever turn!! There was no reception / concierge or noisy lobby. Just a wonderfully relaxing library room, a serene garden terrace, a sophisticated but small bar and a gastronomically accomplished restaurant. Admittedly, there were not many other guests on property when we stayed but the whole experience was incredibly individual with the best service I have ever experienced. Some may find the one on one butler experience a bit overwhelming but you can use them as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.

I can't wait to find an excuse to return to Il Salviatino again - preferably in the summer.

Our weekend spent in Il Salviatino went by all too fast. We arrived at the spectacular hill top villa and immediately felt a sense of tranquility, surrounded by beautiful gardens, we continued up the candlelit driveway where we were met by a very welcoming staff member. We entered the villa via the enticing library and were shown to our room by our personal 'room ambassador' who explained in great detail the history of the villa and the intricate restoration process. He also showed us all the facilities of our elegant suite and explained to us that he was available 24 hours a day for anything we required. We opened our curtains to see the breathtaking view of Florence with the Duomo in the skyline. We settled on our sofa and enjoyed some fresh berries that had been left for us along with some gourmet cookies and nuts.... they were like nothing I had tasted. Our ambassador then took us on a tour of the villa, showing us original art, stained glass windows and showed us to the expansive terrace, giving us throw rugs to keep us warm on a cool autumn evening, and seated us on the beautiful outdoor sofas, by the heaters, where we enjoyed a berry martini (or two!)
We had intended to visit Florence that night, but the villa was just to beautiful to leave and we decided to lounge in our room and enjoy an amazingly sumptous bed, with luxury linen and pillows. The following morning we enjoyed a gourmet breakfast of bacon and scrambled eggs and avocado, fresh breads and pastries and fresh juices, on the vast terrace. Our lazy breakfast was followed by a 90 minute personalised couples massage in the spa. It was pure heaven.
This hotel offers elegance, luxury, privacy and complete discretion. During our stay we were told we were unable to dine in the restaurant as there were certain VIP's that requested privacy. (We later found out that is was Kate Moss!) We will have to go back to experience the restaurant!

Travelled to Il Salviatino for a four day city break to Florence and had a fantastic time from the moment we stepped out of the airport into the car that picked us up to take us to the hotel. The hotel is in a wonderful location, a 10 minute drive either by car or the complimentary shuttle to Florence town centre, and set in fantastic grounds on a hill towards Fiesole. On arrival we had a tour of the hotel, which was a treat in and of itself to see the fantastic and varied rooms and hear the history of the villa. Our room was the epitome of luxury and had panoramic views over Florence which was pretty nice to wake up to! Il Salviatino aims to be a home from home for all its guests (I wish my home was this nice!) and therefore there is no reception. Instead there are service ambassadors who are always available to help you with whatever you need, to give advice for days out or just for a chat. Everyone is incredibly friendly and the service is impeccable. We ate in the restaurant 3 out of the 4 nights because the food was so good, with the chef even conjuring up a vegetarian tasting menu on the spot for the girlfriend!

In summary we had a wonderful time and can't recommend Il Salviatino enough.

I had an all too brief stay at Il Salviatino. The City of Florence is stunningly beautiful, elegant and historic. The statue of David was awe inspiring. I thought Il Salviatino matched these qualities. The hotel is set in large grounds a short distance from the city centre; the views over the city from the beautiful gardens were stunning and a relaxing retreat after a hard days sight-seeing. Service and room were excellent. Looking forward to going back.
